Now before I get slated here...........................................

Seriously, how hard would this be?

does anyone know if there is a particular engine that would be easiest to do this with?

For example does anyone know if the gearbox would have to be changed or is there an engine out there that could work with most of the running gear of the Zed?

The reason I ask is that obviously the fuel economy of a zed is not great, but if all you are after is looks (and what better car to look great in?) why not?

The idea would be to use the car purely as an advert for a company - all logo'd up and driving around towns for people to see. Business wise the fuel economy of the Zed wouldn't add up, but if a diesel engine could be dropped into it relatively inexpensively what would the options be.

I'm not after some super-duper Twin Turbo diesel engine or anything, but something like a primera or avensis engine.

So ideas anyone?

I'm serious about this one......If all I want is the best looking car in the world without the performance or cost.....then, why not?

So come on.......I don't really know where to begin with this that's why I'm asking.

..............."a smoking jacket + pipe + slippers".....hmmmm now there's a thought, I could be doing with them at my yatching club meetings :D

  you played a safe card with that reply Nick :D

fpmsl

what i should have said was:

"lol, you know what i have thought of this myself a couple of times but i wouldn't have a clue where to start... AND I'D GET A COMPLETE SLATING FOR IT"

Nah seriously i can see where you're coming from but why not convert an NA to LPG?

Probably easier and cheaper to do too!

I'm know for definate I'm not the only one who has thought about it...........

But does anyone know of anyone who has actually went all the way and had it done?

fpmsl

  and yes i agree lpg the way to go

now there is a plan.....a NA to LPG......wonder what the mpg cost would be on that.

the same mpg but 50% less to buy

ive got a range rover on lpg and ime getting 16mpg on petrol but the sums work out in real money on gas ime getting 32 mpg which is the only way to justify this baby

...................how would a TT fair with a LPG conversion?.....

now that i dont know

i've looked into it before but no-one has had it done yet as far as i know.

I can squeeze 30mpg out of the NA on the motorway, i know you'd lose a bit on power and economy but still you'd be talking equivalent to 50+mpg

Costs would be 1500-2000

A friend of mine is sticking a bmw 3.5 diesel twin tubby to a zed should be interesting :)

:slap: if you do this. I swear to god I will arrange this to happen to you.

you should be subjected to water torture, bad neighbours, watching big brother non stop for weeks, subjected to white noise and subscribed to war hammer nerd bowl monthly for even thinking such evil and blasphmous thoughts.

Be ashamed, be very ashamed.

A friend of mine is sticking a bmw 3.5 diesel twin tubby to a zed should be interesting :)

you mean the 3.0 twin turbo ;)

But yes that would be interesting to see... but even more interesting would the 4.4l v8 twin turbo diesel they do in europe! 330BHP and 750NM of torque. Averages a combined of 29mpg (38 on the motorway!) in the 745d

If you want economy why not just stick a smaller petrol engine in. The main issues with a diesel is the smell and noise.

To see this beautiful sleek GT car turn up, clattering like an old primera would NOT be a good advert for any business!

LGP is a fine idea, until the tax on it goes through the roof... But it would appear there is at least one company offering a limited amount of forced induction converisons..

Ahhh.......cheers andyp it gets even more interesting....it's been done already.

funkySi........doesn't really defeat the purpose if all you want one for the looks/image/style just.

It has been done before, I had a quick search and this is all I turned up though.

I remember that. They couldn't have fitted a worse engine. That one is the same unit fitted to Metrocab London Taxis and Nissan Serenas. They hit 60 in about 20 seconds. One of the slowest production diesel engines ever made! LOL

It's just so oxymornic. The chap states that serious money has been spent on this conversion....yet, obviously the reason fitting a diesel is to save money on fuel. Just seems a pointless task.

I will add though, that the BMW 535 Twin Turbo diesel is a fine unit. My best mate had an 06 plate one for a while and the torque was fantastic. The only engine worthy of being fitted IMHO...the cost...christ! Just not worth it.
