LOL! Nice one! I have an old Osborne book from the 60s and 70s with obsolete manufacturers in there like NSU, Hillman, Triumph etc.

....must have been rear engined then judging by lack of radiator grille. Nasty rattly prehistoric air cooled lump I'd imagine.

yeah. also has a pea shooter for an exhaust, just like the wartberg, moskovich, trabants. i would rather walk than get in one of those. lol

the silver one with the mk4 golf headlights is a mk2 golf

and im taking it the one for me is because of the wheels in the arches lol

I've been in a Trabant. Early ones were made of a form of papier-mâché weren't they? Think the newer ones were made of a nasty cheap plastic.

Most of my family are Hungarian and one of my uncles over there used to have one. Now drives an E-Class! LOL......that's communism for you!

I think they were made of something called 'Duraplasty' or something along those lines?

they used to make an NSU Prinz TT (it wasn't a twin turbo) but it was very quick and was either 1000 or 1200cc engine behind. They were all yellow coloured and had mag wheels. A lot of car in its day.

I kinda like the first three LOL

I quite like the E30 bimmer :slap: and there has definitely been a lot of work gone into it!

Mate, it's a pink BMW with metal fins welded on the side of it... :smw:

Yeah, similar effort levals to that of the construction of the millenium dome....doesn't mean to say it's actually any good!

ohhhh. Si, i missed one off the list. the DAF 33 VARIOMATIC. the only car driven by a rubber band

  • Author

Not technically true. The DAF variomatic transmission is actually the basis for the Ford/Fiat CVT system of the mid 90's. (CVT being continuously variable transmission). Was offered on Fiestas and Puntos I believe. I have driven one and it's very strange. No sense of gearchange as you would in a conventional way. Just a continuous hum. I could imagine it sounds more akin to that of an electric car.

As for the Ladas...well, words can't describe. A more worthy automotive creation are those little toy cars made from old coke cans built buy 1 legged HIV infected 5 year old kids in Namibia.

the very first car i drove was the daf 33, many many years ago. drive, neutral & reverse. my father was a mechanic for the dealers in sheffield. changing the drive belts was a task as well. LOL. for the guys thats never seen one before, here it is.

Interesting. I always thought they had belts on cones that moved up and down like a selector fork. I think that's CVT system as that's basically all internal in a gearbox, but the variomatic looks like it's all external?
