HICAS inner ball joints - STILL FAIL MOT!!!!!!

hi all, still failed mot, I have replaced outer hicas ball joints and the wheels still wobble about, tester recomends inner hicas ball joints next as these seem to be where most of the play is, can anyone give me a quick guide on how to fit them, the outer ones were easy how come i am worried about the inner ones, the new bits will be here in the morning and I am very eager to get her finished, I just hope and pray that bottom ball joints and shocker bushes are ok cos tester said he could see slight play in them too.

Thank in anticipation of help

Brian

mate. get a hicas remover bar. done deal. and the car behaves a lot better.

Yep, sounds like the play you have is in the Hicas arms, as apposed to the outer joints, comman fault.

Give Mike at MJP a shout, he'll sort ya out!

well i am on the large size Saz but my Ar*e dont sway that much!!!!

seriously tho I wouldent know, I aint ever driven her more than the end of the road and back.

If you have a look at online manual it will be helpful...when i did mine i set them to specified length and tracking was still out, so i would recomend getting that done as well...

The mot tester failed my car on rear bushes due to play (so i special ordered from nissan) Turned out to be nothing wrong with them just the play in the hicas arm made it look like play in the bushes...... :slap:

Hicas lock bar wont fix the problem you still need the arms ,the lock bar just replaces the rack.To fit new arms take both split pins out of nuts and undo nut, break joint with ball joint breaker undo both rack gaiters und undo big 32 mm nut under gaiter whille holding the other side nut 32mm .Locktite the threads and fit new arms .Rear track will need to be reset as well.

One end will undo but then you need to stop the rack turning to undo the other. Remove the stopper nut from the end that undid then get a 17mm spanner on the rack to hold it while you undo the other :) When you put the stopper back on, there should be about 1mm between it and the balljoint, then lock with the locknut..

Doesn't make much sense now but it will when you're under the car with it infront of you. Also may be worth replacing the wire ties that hold the boot in place as these often snap when reinstalling them...
