yup full of potholes, bumper destroying speed bumps, entapping speed cameras, raised manholes and incompetent road lay outs!!

I've just shelled out for mine too. I don't mind paying car tax......'much'. But for something I rarely use...I dunno, bit unfair at times.

It's only £15 a month though. That's cheaper than most people's mobile phone bills.

£180, just like that, and for what??? My roads are RUBBISH

You get your own roads?

For my tax I get to use the public ones like everyone else!

It is the only tax i dont begrudge paying as its the only tax i get something back from as i use the roads so should pay towards them, not like the rest of the excuses they have to screw money out of us!

TBH i wouldn't mind paying it if it was per person and you could use your tax in any car but like me if you have several vehicles it costs an absolute fortune.

just got back from the states and the fuel works out less than 20 pence a litre and they don't have car tax its in the price of the fuel so how come we buy the fuel from the same place and it costs us the same to purchase it but we pay so much more ? TAX so wtf do we need that as well !

In general I think British roads are in a disgraceful condition.. It might only be £15 per month, but don't forget the £50 per month wear & tear/damage the roads cause your car.. Some of the roads in my area are like driving on a rally track.. And they want people out of 4X4's  .. Some road surfaces are only suitable for 4X4's :headvswal :xxx: Sort the fooking roads out first!! :nono:

:xxx: ERS!!

In retrospect, whilst I agree, fuel is taxed to excess, if fuel wasn't taxed quite so heavily, there would not only be more cars on the road, but more pollution. In a country the size of the UK, you have to draw the line somewhere.

The UKs roads are overcrowded and at times fit to burst. Driving in the UK generally is not that much fun. If there was more traffic on the roads, it would be absolutely terrible.

The US can get away with it to a certain degree as the country is so vast. Even 'popping the other side of town' can involve a 30 minute car drive. Public transport just isn't practical.

The US can get clogged though as I found out driving along I-10 through Los Angeles last year. I got caught in a major traffic jam. It's like being in the UK in that respect. But get out off the Interstate and generally, the traffic is great.

How did you find driving in the US overall?

It's not something i'd mind that much if i could see the money being spent in my area, but it's not.

On the fuel side of things, it is expensive, personaly i think around the 80p per litre is reasonable enough to stop over crouding and not damage wallets too much.

What in Iraq? Have you seen the state of the roads out here?

the car stays safely in my parents garage when im away

3 months away and 1 month back - so its not realy worth the hassle

same with TV liscense and sky+ - £500 a year for only 3 months of viewing

and council tax etc etc etc and the list goes on lol

supose its better than paying by the mile

Actually i think thats a fair way of paying ( the more miles you do the more you pay) Ditch the road tax... No doubt we would get shafted either way

we dont own the roads,we "rent them" so where else do we pay rent money iff we dont atually use it  it should be pay-as-you-go like any other rent or hire service and either levvy it on the fuel we burn or have a mile related levvy

i use to get tax discs of the buses, get some brake fluid/cleaner and add my own details LMAO cant do it anymore!

thats no good greg,i use to get them from the post office for 6 years untill the mot,s become computerised via a good sorce ;) allso mot,s for last 10 years untill they become to big brotherish. oh by the way i can do you a good deal on £20 notes that even pass the marker pens ;)

ps: please no body give it the old "public forum "jargon ime to clever :D

Pay as you drive or extra money on fuel would be a far fairer way to do it. Just like the pole tax was and look at what happened over that. I rarely use my car during the week as I use a van for work but still hve to tax and insure it.

SI.

I don't think the price of fuel has anything to do with the number of cars on the road. I don't think most people consider that when getting a car these days. All they look at is the fact they need one or want one.

PASS SOME 20S MY WAY BUD :D

please spare a thought for us irish members. 1100 euro , about £700 for our yearly road tax and we genuinely do have bad roads. i have driven UK roads a lot over the last ten years and I tell you , they are a damn sight better. SO STOP MOANING :nono:
