Hello mate my tip is - remove the windscreen vents carefully as they get brittle and break really easily.

i beleive the 1997 - 2000 p11 matrix is the one you require. There are two models in the P11 which are the p11 and the p11e (facelift) it's the pre-facelift model you want. Most Nissan garages will be able to source one for you and supply the part number. If you get a good garage they will also V.O.R (next day delivery) the part for you.

But i second what radron said about the vents they are very brittle so use a trim tool or flat screw driver to compress the spring clips holding them in. as for the rest of the dash try masking the edges up to avoid sratching any surfaces.

Other than that good luck. and i await a smart arse comment to correct me lmao

Dont remove dash, waste of time. It can be replaced much quicker and just as easily with dash in place. If its a Manual you will have to remove clutch pedal box.

Zed traders can supply brand new 300zx matrix for a reasonable price.

Mate I feel sorry for you... Was such a pain in the ass when I did mine, took about 15 hours in the end :headvswal

I took the dash out too cause I read that if you had a manual car it was more of a pain in the ass to remove the clutch than it was to take the dash out. Got to say as well it was a big enough nightmare removing the matrix with the dash out, hate to think how fiddly it would be with the dash still in place.....

I used this guide anyway along with the link to dash removal and it served me well!!

I would have never been able to do it with the dash in, not enough space for me. Did it in 7 hours with dash out.

7 hours start to finish!!! damn that was quick!!

I had it all apart by then and the new matrix in but it took me ages the next day to put it all back together.

2-3hrs without dash removal !

  If I ever have to do the job again I'll drive down to your place and let you do it then.

I did mine when I changed the EFI loom and don't see how it could be done with the dash in. Not with my big fat sausages anyway. It took me about 15 hours to do the EFI loom (plenum off) new ptu and 555's + heater matrix. That also included a trip up to see duffer to show me how to put the injectors in without shagging the seal rings.

all he needed to have said was use grease :headvswal

Anyway all these newbies benifit from all the daft mistakes the likes of me have made over the years

Anyway I thought you shorty was going to go V8.

I remember that day Mark lol - those seals looked like they'd been put in using a stanley knife  ;)

I have done this twice now. i took the dash out, it's not a hard job and it save you having you head under the dash for hrs . and the clutch peddal is a bitch. i did use a MK2 nissan Primara matrix but you have to take the heater box out from behind the dash and trim the inside as the matris is 2mm thicker plus it's only £70, if you need any help just shout

Wish I'd seen this post a few weeks back. I got a quote on a primera one and it was the same price: over £200. I've bought a proper 300 one which comes to £270 with the engine hoses!
