Nope a tougher stance needs to be taken, illegal posession, LIFE, no ifs no buts, no exceptional circumstances and life should mean life.

 

and prison should be a punishment not a holiday camp!!

but as has been said the licenced holders arent the problem its those buying them on the black market and that is already banned and unfortunately i can see no way of stopping it without drastic measures against those commitiing the crimes!!

Cars are also referred to in the same sentence as sport, and they kill (or should I say their drivers) more people in this country than guns ever do.

 

The gun is just a tool that in the wrong hands (like cars) can take life just as easy as a box of matches & a gallon of petrol.

 

We all live in a country with constant threats of terrorism by psychopaths that our government felt the need to open the floodgates to, even the wife of one of these psychopaths said on the news last week that her husband was innocent, its a worry when his own wife don't know what terrorist activites her (doctor) husband gets up to.

OK not all of that race are terrorists, but if their own familys don't know what they get up to how the hell can we tell???.

The way I've seen things going in this country over the past few years we may all need guns just for our own protection soon, as the whole justice system is far too soft on the real criminals, and far too hard on the poor ol guy doing 55mph on a 50 limit at 3.00am :rant:

Sorry but you cant compare a gun with a car. When you load a gun the main purpose is to shoot something/someone and kill. But yes both can be lethal.

 

If the law banned all guns from this country other than for the police or armed forces the black market would become very difficult to sustain. I have no idea why anyone outside the afore mentioned would need to own a gun? Maybe sport? No I still cant think of a good enough reason to own a gun. Guns were invented for one purpose....To kill. end of story. :D

gun debate eh?.....well back in the 80's there was @ 3million publically licensed firearms in the uk...owing to a succession of gun laws following hungerford etc we now have @ 1 million basically shotguns and the like....in Japan they have @ 100 publically licensed firearms this has been the same since the 80's...our death rate from shootings is equal to that in Japan....another important fact is that the police spend 1000's & 1000's of hours each year interviewing decent law-abiding gun owners as to why they need to renew the gun license when to be frank the time would be better spent actually chasing criminals who use illegal guns for crime...i think we as a public are being ripped off under such a system...oh and dont get me started on the cost of the hand gun amnesty which cost @ £1bn and made no difference to the number of gun crimes...we (the UK) could have had a specilised gun response police squad for that kind of money...hey ho....i dont own a gun by the way :)

 

curious but true...in Switzerland teenagers are sent home with live ammo and guns to learn respect of firearms as part of national service, Switzerland, where almost every adult male is legally required to possess a gun is one of the few nations with a higher per capita rate of gun ownership than the United States, Switzerland has virtually no gun crime.

doesent suprise me about Switzerland at all, look at problems caused through drinking on the continent, very little, because the youth are brought up to respect it, unlike this country where its so tightly regulated. Oh theres that word again RESPECT, discipline, punishment.

 

Maybe if the jumped up little 5hits were made to pay for their crimes than they wouldnt commit them or think twice about commiting them in the first place

Sorry but firearms can be and are used for sport. I spent 7 years in the great Britain Shooting Squad. And the sort of fire arms used for sport are not the sort that are out there doing the killing etc. I also used to shoot Pistol but due to the so called hand gun amnesty, had give up my pistol, and got nowhere near what it was worth. So what did that achieve. there are more gun's out there now Since they supposedly took them off the street than before. you can kill anyone with anything more people are killed or stabbed so why not get rid of knive's too. You'd be suprised how many stabbing's go on that you don't get to find out about.
