They are complete rubbish and you would be better with a standard ECU. Which I would be prepared to exchange for your rubbish blitz tosh because I'm a loving caring sort of guy.

Blitz never made anything they are just a badge engineer tuning boutique. They buy in good tried and testeds tuff in bulk and have the manufacture brand it Blitz then they charge 20% more than the originals are sold for. So I'd say your ECU is most likely a Mines or something similar. May even be a JWT, but it will be nice and safe with a programable socketed chip. So unless your looking to up the boost or something i'd stick with it.

Well the car already has a Greddy Profec B boost controller, lo setting 7psi high is just under 1bar

So just because i have a Blitz ECU it doesnt mean its chipped to run faster ?

I have a few of these japanese 'tuner' ECU's they are very popular in japan as they provide a very safe way to run higher boost, basic mods etc. Yes it will make your power and torque better than a stock ECU running higher boost. the stock units have very conservative maps in by comparison.

The units I have are (Peak 'HP' figures I have seen with my apexi multichecker when fitted):-

Trend corporation (413hp)

Mines (410hp)

Blitz (405hp)

Tomei (407hp)

I also have a stock ECU socketed with a Zedworld chip in it. (402hp)

(all readings taken whilst running 1 bar boost, stillen intercoolers, Blitz intake and de-catted exhaust system)

Generally these ECU's have the fuel and ignition maps are optimised for better than stock performance and they are sold with generic tuning mods in mind e.g.

Stock engine

up-rated boost

Induction kit

After market exhaust

up rated intercoolers

These kind of ECU's are still very popular in japan for current models e.g. 350z Evo's scooby's etc.

Unlike some cowboy chips these 'named' exchange ECU's are done to a very high standard and do not remove for example the safety maps that Nissan put in for good reason. They are one of the prime creators of a tuning houses brand in japan after their demo cars. Note none of my 'named' units are actually 'socketed' instead they have fully soldered in chips and are sealed with a layer of gunk to stop anyone trying to remove the chip. This is because each tuning house wanted to protect its maps against copying and also the deal was that as you upped the modification level of your car they would exchange the ECU for the next one as long as you had not broken the seals.

I have always meant to dyno these ecu's back-to-back for comparison as there are differences and i would be fascinated to see by how much.

Current market value of these ECU's is around 250 quid via e:bay

Also beware the urban myth that they only work with jap higher RON fuel. They all work fine with optimax.

My engine only blew when i put removed the mines ECU (my fave for spread of power) and put the zedworld chip in. I am not saying that was the only reason as it was as hot as hell that day at silverstone and i had a helmet on so could not hear anything until it was too late

Thats great thanks for that reply :)

On another note, where can I get Uprated intercoolers anyone ?

Also, what do you need to do to run higher then 1bar ?

Danny at DTA does greddy, HKS or Z1 intercoolers mate.

You can wap it up now if yer like with a boost controller, engine or tubs won't last long though ;)

To run in excess of 1 bar reliably, bigger injectors and turbo's ( 5 bolt upwards) erm better intercoolers :D and if yer cash runs to it, new pistons before No.6 goes ka pow! oh and a new chip to suit as yer Blitz one won't run those mods above.

What sort of places can I go for bigger turbo's ? I dont want massive but some increase ? what do you recomend ?

Well if yer not after BIG increases, you could stay with a 4 bolt turbo ( uprated t25) with uprated actuators and be able to run more than a bar of boost, however the injectors would deffo need doing too. IMO however you only do the tubs under 2 conditions, 1) yer existing are fooked or on their way out or 2) your doing a project build for a certain amount of power.

It can be an expensive exercise just to get a wee bit more power see ;)

Personally when turbos go and you want more, 5 bolt turbos only cost a few hundred quid more than most reputable 4 bolt jobbies and are in place ready for when the bigger power is wanted either by yerself or the next owner.

Danny can give you prices on certain turbos in both 4 bolt and 5 bolt configuration.

If you have induction, exhaust, boost controller, chipped ECU or similar, decent side mounts, then you should have a pretty quick motor, obviously decatting as well increases power even further, oh a custom MAP for all this might gain you a few more horses too ;) After all the above, it's ££££ injectors/turbos etc.

Hope that helps

cheers

Ive done all the basic stuff, ECU/Decat exhaust/ARC Induction/Boost controller.

Thats why I want new intercoolers next I reckon? To hopefully prolong the life of things when running higher boost?

Maybe then consider doing tubs/injectors at same time but then im guessing id need new pistons if I upgrade tubs/injectors and start running more power ?

Maybe ill do intercoolers then start focusing cash on making it look nicer :)

That's the idea mate, you deffo need intercoolers to reduce the intake charge temps, sooner rather than later.

Enjoy what yer got for now and if the engine ever needs to come out, do yer tubs/injectors then, obviously as the engine is out, you'd be nuts not to fit forged pistons on a Zed running a bar for a period of time, so may as well allow for that.

cheers
