paintwork question on wide arches............

As some of you may know my z had a bodykit and complete respray done last Novemeber. The problem I have is that the paint seems to be chipping off "too" easily.

I have done about 2 - 2.5k since November and am pretty sure this shouldn't have happened so soon. The picture of the twin scoops was taken about a month or so ago and since then has chipped even more. The last picture is of where the rear windscreen meets the bodywork in the bottom corner on the passanger side. I don't think it will be too long before the paint just falls off.

My main question is to anyone (including Simon H) who has had the wide arch kit fitted. How did you find the scoops/paint hold up against normal driving conditions? Did you find that they chipped really easily?

Also I need to know from anyone who has had a fibreglass rear bumper, did the paint work come off as easily as it shows in the first 2 pictures. I was told today that that is normal for a fibreglass bumper for which I am not convinced.

I have to be honest and say that when I picked up my car, it looked fantastic. After 6 months, she looks tatty and I'm really dissapointed.

On the other note, I had problems with my side skirts cracking and have been told that they will be fixed withought any fuss.

I have not named any names as I really just want peoples opinions on wether the paintwork should have done this or not.

Thanks for any help,

Vijay

Sorry to hear this Vij mate, I have been aware of what's been going on. I don't think SimonH fitted his wide arches in the end matey, just the Strosek front and rear bumpers! wink.gif

I think it can be a small issue with the wide arches stone chipping, Peter at PPS, is doing a few things to protect mine from just that. Stone chip smooth paint on the arches round the vents I think. You should ring him and see what he says.

You can also buy clear Foliatec film now that can be applied straight after paint to add more protection.

That's not very much mileage though mate, I must admit! Shouldn't really be that bad at this point in time IMO!!!

Vijay,

If it helps, my TVR had that type of flaking but not as bad. But that was after 33,000 miles so I would have thought your paint should have lasted better.

Hi Vijay, sorry to hear about paint woes, some years ago i had same probs on rear spoiler/front spoiler body kit on m5 beemer, luckily wher i worked a mate of mine was top dog sprayer, he said at time,"NOT ENOUGH LAQUER" SPRAYED EM ALL UP AND 4-5 COATS OF LAQUER OVER 6 HOURS,NEVER CHIPPED OF AFTER THAT,if its done correctly takes years to chip off,Tonyhzx3.jpg

Hi there Vijay

Very sorry to hear you are not happy with your work that has been done on your car M8. I answer to your question my kit has some very minor chips on the front bumper and a couple on my side vents (but not as bad as your pictures seem to indicate. I must admit (as Glen can confirm) most of mine are down to the shitty roads we have on the IOW.

I know that these kit are made out of what is quite a brittle material which could be prone to chipping. I have had to touch in a few area's on mine but being a basic nissan red it is not too bad to do. This may present more of a problem in your case because the pearlecent white could be a bitch to match. As you know I did not fit the wide arches but still have the vents same as yours. When I installed the kit I made sure that felxable fibreglass filler was used to blend it in particularly around the rear vents. The only thing I could suggest would be to flat back that area and give it another good coat of paint/laquer. I am in the middle on making a couple of platic covers around the back part of the rear wheel arch. To protect the exact area you have photographed. I will let you know how I get on and take some photo's. It's a shame you don't live closer to me M8 as I could probably sort those chips out for you ( I am a dab hand with a spray can and some wet and dry now!!!). Try to get the code for the spray that was used Vijay and get some colour match stuff mixed up (it's always handy to have). I am sure that these probs on your motor can be sorted so don't give up on it. I will give you a call later on today.

Seez ya!

Hi Vijay,

What a bugger frown.gif

You dont need to name names BUT as a businessman if you came to me and paid me what you paid the unnamed (and frankly respected) company I'd want to sort that out for you mate.

Take it back if poss...

Good luck

I have been back and that's what I was told. Now I'm in shit position. I guess I'm gonna have to call him and see what he has to say.

It's just shit that some of the paintwork looks worse now than the original.........
