I've got an LCD projector in my attic with a ginormous cinema screen. Thing is, the 25th anniversary edition of BLADERUNNER 5 disc box set is coming out soon and rumour has it that it will have a blue-ray version :hyper: . It would be worth the price of a ps3 alone for this as I can't wait!!!!!

Thing is, would a blue ray disc played through a ps3 through projector onto canvas screen be better quality? I know you have to have HD ready for plasmas and LCD's , but not too sure how this would work out with a projector, does THAT need to be HD ready or something? Any advice appreciated.....................

yeah Mick, the projector would have to be hidef as well ( atleast having a component input or hdmi with a panel res of 1024 * 768 ) and non of that blue ray Cr*p. ;) Warner are releasing the HD DVD version anyway and have been looking at that...All being well will be watching 300 (hd dvd ) as well in hidef tomorrow night with dolby truehd taking care of the audio as well. :hyper:

AHA! cheers . must look up my projector manual, cant remember the resolution. Would it even improve the picture if i've got a decent resolution?

Will do Mick..even if you connect a hidef source to a standard def display it will still look pretty good..though not as good as the real thing !

good! Manual specifies resolution; 409,920 pixels (854(w) x 480(H)DOTS) X 3.........whatever the hell that means. So you reckon buy a hd player and not blue ray? Are there hd players available yet? if so what kind of money are they ? Sorry for all the questions lol but seems like you know your stuff

thats a low resolution there mate, even a standard PAL DVD has 576 lines, that has 480. You would likely see no improvement in quality at all.

 ...oh well only compromise is bladerunner would look and sound good even on a portable Tv

i have just watched casino royale on blu-ray and yes it was good quality but i wasnt that blown away i dont think i will be replacing my dvd's just yet. Any differance between HD-DVD and blu-ray as sony said last week "HD-dvd will fail in a matter of months"

it will all come down to who buys into what, i suppose its like vhs vs beta!! i would imagine that HD will win over as the blu ray is sony only and to get it from sony i would imagine would cost alot of money and with HD dvd's now under £500 (think the tosh was voted about the best so far) you can only see it going one way, saying that blu ray via my ps3 was mind blowing on my new plasma.

just make sure you get yourself a true 1080 projector not one that will upscale!! i was watching a demo film on the new sony 1080 lcd via the new sony blu ray dvd player (released later this year) and it made my set up look crap, it really blew me away it was the best quality ive ever seen!! so if thats the quality sony are going to go with then who knows :)

That and the original 'Get Carter' are my two favourite films.

its going to be interesting to see who wins and who loses out. as for me im happy with my good 'old' DVDs (for now). i have an HD ready widescreen, ready to accomodate my PS3 (when i finally decide to get one)

Typical Sony speak to be honest. I have been reading their blurb with interest and typical of their marketing stradegy in the past. I invested in a Toshiba hd dvd player and have not regreted it and have now a good collection of them. Have to say the difference between dvd's and hd dvd's are night and day , picture and audio, and find it very hard to watch normal sd dvd. If anyone is interested you can now buy the toshiba hd e1 from most retailers for around £200.. A superb machine alround..
