Heard some rumours that they are going to stop using certain types of car paints (not sure but maybe 2k paints) because of environmental reasons. Instead use some sort of water-based paints. Is this true or has someone been winding me up? Apparently the new paints are more expensive and going to put smaller businesses out of business.

  :nelson:

Thanks

Paul

Well thats as i understand it ,the reps who went to see him were offering free demo,s on a car if his choice with waterbased paint

I had our lasses car sprayed with water based paint 3 years ago.Keep up   :p

yup they are getting rid of cellulose paints as well.... global warming and all that shite...still waiting for these hot sunny days

a friend of mind owns a body/paint shop and he does custom paintjobs for magazines etc... he is trying to get a concession to continue using cellulose paints as the type of work he does is not available in waterpaints, not sure how much research/development companies like 'house of colour' are doing into producing crazy waterbased paints or even if it is possible...

Think you'll find water based paints are being phased in right now across the UK and 2K is getting hard to get hold of... ie in Slough only one place still supply the 2K stuff and the rest have already gone water based... with the water based stuff an oven is pretty much essential, hence why smaller bodyshops without the right facilities will struggle with the water based stuff...

But also means the home user will be forced to go to a bodyshop, so the smaller places should get more work and keepo them open and afford the ovens. All evens out.

The base coat is water based but the laquer,s still 2 pack :headvswal and before anyone asks you don,t use your tap to thin the paint down :slap: :D

We,re now using a ceramic laquer for mercs which suppose to be self healing , ie if it gets a fine scratch in it it re-seals itself !!!!!!!

Wow. Impressive! My wife could do with a few buckets of that.

I bet she won,t get to read this ! :x:

Hi,

It was NISSAN that developed the self healing scratch resistant paint a couple of years ago.Light scratches will supposedly heal themselves in anything from a day to a week!

Hope it works better than their rustproofing used to do!
