Power steering?

Coming home from footy tonight, my power steering seemed to 'switch off'.

I had just overtaken some vroom vrooms (the chaps face as I cruised past his Omega V6, was a treat). As I did a sharp right, the steering was heavy and was for the rest of the journey.

I tried it after 5min and it seemed to be OK!

Any suggestions?

My speed sensor failed and mine kept going heavy and light.

Gotta say it does sound like the speed sensor to be honest - is the car an auto? If it is do an auto diagnostic wink.gif Is it an import? It could be the speed convertor messing the signal up...

Check to see if the power steering pump drive belt hasn't shredded itself.

Pump is located behind r/h headlamp. Have a look and see if it is still there.

I only use the brakes so I can accelerate all over again.

I have an import manual.

Could this be caused by me having no dash?

The belt appears to be OK

Could be your fluid needs renewing. When I renewed mine problem went away. Also try some additive that frees up/recons the seals. Basically refrenew the fluid thru the reservoir a bit at a time. Empty, refill, drive car, & repeat & repeat till fluid looks clean. Or it could be slipping drive belt, or a fluid leak.

Where is the reservoir?

What is the reservoir behind the passenger headlight for? (or is that it)

It's the small green metal one with a wire going into the top above the drivers side front wheel.

If it suddenly went off then it aint fluid wink.gif

How do you mean no dash???? If you mean the speedo has gone off then there's a speed signal problem - either the speed sensor has gone or the speed signal convertor has gone...
