Instead of fitting dump valves to get the usual whoosh sound, can another device be fitted to enable a wastegate chatter noise instead???

My mate has a 200sx, he put an air filter on and that made his car sound as though it had a wastegate on as it chattered when he changed gear, but it was quiet.

How can i achieve this noise on a Z (but louder)...???

Cheers Guys

Wastegate chatter is from cars fitted without Recircs or dumpvalves - Remove the stock recirc valves and connect up remaining pipework and you will get wastegate chatter.

However thats not a good thing...the noise you are hearing is the air forcing its way back through the impellors attempting to stall them....it increases lag and can cause a reduction in turbo lifespan, which is why Nissan fitted Recircs as standard (recirculating dump valves (silent dump valves))

Although....different dump valves make different noises..you may be able to find one that can offer a similar sound effect, but I have'nt heard one.

Orido's supra makes the best compressor stall sound

:D

Going to need a big turbo and high boost to get that effect though, stock ones on a zed will be weak at best.

This single turbo zed does it pretty well :p

To do it you just need to disconnect and block up the recirc valves, there's probably a good reason why nobody does though :p

Maybe your looking for turbo's with external wastegate's? they sound awesome but might heat up your engine bay a little

the noise has nout to do with the wastegates anyway, it is from the compressor wheel.

you can't, stock recirc's will leak if you open them to atmosphere, afaik anyway.
