I've got an Induction Kit!

I've discovered I have an K&N Induction kit, so why does it not sound like I have one? The cone filter was really dirty and the second mesh piece is just as bad.

I'm now really confused, I'm also confused how a Nissan Garage missed this and a specialist missed it too??

HI ,the k&n sounds like it needs cleaning and re-oiling.

you need to buy the k&n cleaner and oil,any performance shop should be able to get it.

IMPORTANT YOU DONT FORGET TO RE-OIL IT,THATS HOW IT WORKS!

the induction kit doesnt make any difference at all regarding sound or performance( thats how ive found my k&n kit)

personally i think it only makes a difference when youve started upgrading, intake ,etc

nice suprise you never knew ya had hey.nice 1

jay

I thought an induction kit gave 10% gains?

The wee jap bloke must have hit a feathered friend at some point, cause I've pulled out feathers and bird bones of the filter and front bumper (not helping matters, I feel).

So on a stock 300ZX, the space under the headlight panel is just a big open space?

do you really think you will notice 10% gains on a 280 bhp car?

if the cone is in a bad way id buy another cone if i was you

they are supposed to last a lifetime(cleaning every couple of yrs) but if its damaged.i wouldnt take the risk i'd just replace, cheaper than a new engine and you dont want unfiltered air going in !

in the space around ya filter you can also add a seperate oil cooler if you have an auto box

Mind and tell your insurer! They'll want about £40 for just knowing!!

HA!!!!! £40 for knowing?

My insurer wated over £100 for one.

I tried to put a K&N filter on mine but it didnt fit and I had to drive 2 miles to the place where I bought it from with out any filter on it at all. I know naughty!

But I could really feel the difference. My belly turned over when I put my foot down. Like it did the first time I floored my Z.

I thought an induction kit made the car sound different? my freind put one on his mr2 and it sounds absolutely mental (apexi)

MIKE,i thought so too until i bought my k&n.it made no difference wot so ever

Guys guys guys,

Don't forget that the car has those two hairdryers wink.gif The compressor wheel will massively reduce induction roar, in the same way as the exhaust noise is reduced by the impellor.....

CheerZ,

Andy

Where can I get a new K&N filter, I was looking at demontweeks, but they are really overpriced.

Also it has some sort of sensor attached to it, any ideas?

After cleaning the filter and mesh, I can now state the following:

Induction kits make a noise and you can feel the difference!

I still haven't worked out what the sensor is for!

The air flow sensor detects the amount of air going into the engine. Some ainduction kit have a problem of making a flow of air around the sensor and it doesnt detect any causing the engine to stall.

I may get a filter then if it makes a difference.

I bought a K&N filter. It cost me £180 eek.gif took it back though because it didnt fit. Im thinking about getting a CyberCraft one, nice design and resonable cost. They make a dual one which looks the business. Dont know how much difference it would make to an un-modified car

Stuart

My import came with a K&N on it but even after cleaning it twice and re-oiling it it seems so clogged I can feel no air passing through it if I blow really hard at it. Decided to get a nice new Blitz SUS from Johnny boy at Grasshopper. I think it cost £137 +VAT

just remember that you can replace just the filter itself on 90% of these induction kits, so dont get caught time after time buying a complete new one. Like the HKS one they want £160 but for just the filter like £20.

Mike, its hard to explain, but satisfying sounding. (if that makes sense).

This K&N thing is huge, I saw an HKS one, quite small and green coloured. FFS, I could put a reflective strip around it and flog it as a traffic cone!!

Does K&N have a WWW?

I think I'm now up to 360BHP ish, assuming that I'm getting the full HP for the mods.

As long as you go to a Halfords Arcade Store, (the new ones that do all the upgrade stuff) you can get the cleaning kit and a new filter from there.

what did you do to make the k+n work so good?

sure it was connected properly?

jay

falkirk have you a pic of this k+n? id like a look at this second piece of mesh you were on aboutjay

My mucky K&N is for sale in the other forum if anyone is interested.

I took it off, gave it a damn good wash. (nearly ruined the sink). Full of road grime and bird feathers.

Jay, I'll grab a photo of it tomorrow, plus a photo of the second mesh bit.

I've been looking at the K&N range, it's gonna cost about 70GBP to replace the filter!

Chris, How old and how mucky? I need 152mm (6") neck

Don't know how old it is but it looks pretty black to me, even after a wash with the cleaning fluid etc.

It fits straight onto the airflow meter... I presume this is a standard size fitting?

Right, got photos of the thing.

How do I get the picture displayed? I did read the UBB thing, but I don't understand it.

Just had an idea, I'll e-mail it.

I went to Halfords to enquire about a new one, not bad at 68 GBP. Then he told me 4-5 weeks delivery. I laughed!

Ok first load the picture into your rides, then type at the start and at the end and paste it into here.
