Whats the best way to prep and paint the brake calipers? The calipers i have are the cast ones (not ally), is it just a case of cleaning them up and painting. Also whats the best type of paint to use? I've seen specific caliper paint, high temp paint and also heard of a few people using hammerite. Any help and preferences are much appreciated :hyper: .

Yep I just mixed enough for the fronts in a jam jar and kept the rest for later :)

you should mix a little at a time... enough for each caliper

Cheers Joel.

Foliatec seems to do a nice gold colour, hopefully like the 350z gold calipers.

May need to give it a try :D

What colour you reckon for my calipers (Blue, Red or Black.)

I reckon the blue would go well with your car or black if you want to keep it subtle.

I could... do "Gold"..

But don't you think with "Scoobie Blu" paint job and gold calipers me ZED is starting to transform (ohhhh sh***tt..) as step too far me thinks .. nahh I think black or red are the more likley options..

(the gold would clash with me chrome wheels) ;)

What a beautifully timed thread......I've just bought some high temperature aluminium paint to do my calipers and I've found this thread really helpful.

I realise from this thread that foliatec is most likely the best solution but, being the cheapskate that I am, I am trying to get away with a cheaper solution (not always the best idea I know).

Will the high temperature paint survive the caliper heat OK and will all my efforts be rewarded or will it look a pig's ear?

Advice is sought from them that know!

Cheers - Dave

I had the same idea Dave, i bought high temp aluminium and red paint for the calipers but wanted to know if after a few weeks/months would they still be ok. I think the Foliatec paint would be better as Chris says the finish is like enamel so should stand up to stone chips.

But then thats what the hammerite is supposed to do.

Don't know what to do now lol. :mac1:

Engine dress up paint £6.99 from your local automotive shop.

Used it on mine and have had no problems at all.

youve bought it now so give it a go... if it does end up looking pants after a few weeks then invest in the foliatec stuff :) im sure itll be fine though

I quite like that idea, was wondering how to do the Nissan logo. Was thinking about hand painting it but i have the shakes something terrible lol.

Although having the cast calipers it wouldn't be long before they corrode.

I painted my NISSAN area in white first then painted the rest in red and just wiped the red off the top of the NISSAN letters, looks good :p :D

me too, i used high temp orange paint as primer and then normal paint and laquer - no probs so far
