The missus came home the other day and started telling me a story of her drive home: She was driving in traffic and a Ferrari came flying past overtaking into incoming traffic and generally freaking people out. Now I couldn't say much here as owning a rather nippy car I often overtake into incoming traffic knowing the capabilities of the car that I'm safe. On occasions I'd imagine it freaks people who don't expect the car to be so fast. The Ferrari dissapeared around the next corner. When the missus got around the corner there was a pile up :slap: The Ferrari was on the grass verge seemingly undamaged. Two or three cars were on the same side where the front one had obviously braked hard to let the overtaking Ferrari back in before a headon. The cars behind had been tailgating so went into the back of the front car. The same thing had happened on the other side of the road; two or three cars piled up. Thankfully no one seemed to be hurt.

Now here's my thoughts :nana2: The Ferrari driver is obviously either 'a pr*ck who can't drive' or possibly 'a new owner getting too ambitious and learning his lesson the hard way', still a pr*ck obviously for not thinking of others. I expect most people agree with me so far. I also think that those people in the pile ups either side are as much to blame (and I'm sure there insurance companies will say the same thing). 80% of people on the roads, especially in South East traffic jams, tailgate the car in front for no reason other than stopping the car behind from jumping into the gap. What do you think? :D

I had to go on a speed awareness course due to one of the times I got caught by a speed camera. At one point we got asked who tailgates. I put my hand up and said I sometimes tailgate people who hog the overtaking lane on dual carriageways (one of my pet hates). He went on to (in a nice way) show me how dangerous it is. I had some performance driving lessons over the next year and tailgating was the no1 no-no. I still hate lane hogs but try to get them to go back where they belong in other more friendly ways first :smash:

Just thought I'd share the story. The missus thinks its unreasonable for me to think the people in the pileups are at fault as it wouldn't have happened if the Ferrari drivers wasn't being an idiot?

I for one am sick of people cutting across me on the m1, squeezing into a gap barely large enough for their car,

So you drive on a motorway and barly leave a cars length between you and the car infront? :slap:

how many times have you been on a motorway and left a 2 second gap and not had it filled by some twat?

Thats the point in the gap also though, so people can change lanes safely as well as being able to brake without piling into the car infront.

Just lift off for 2 seconds and you have your gap again.

dependant on the speed of traffic, when traffic is backing up i always try and leave a suitable distance however some waanker always decides to just squeeze right in and fill it with complete disregard for the person behind

funny do they not realise that artics have tons of weight on the back and take some stopping!!

no i dont think they do, even when they are empty they wiegh 12 tonns or more

Where I live most of the roads are 60mph, most of them are two lanes but very wide. One day I was driving home, looked at my radio for a spilt second, when looked up and there was a car coming towards me on the wrong side of the road. Good job it was only a spilt second I took my eyes off the road. The car coming the other way forced me to drive into the gutter; this happens all the time and yesterday morning on my way to work a bike crashed into the side of a car doing the same thing.

Good on the Ferrari driver to stop. If his car is fine eh didn't need to!

The Ferrari driver may have made someone hit the brakes a little hard but if everyone had kept a propper stopping distance this would not have been a problem.

My conclution :-

The ferrari driver was the catalist of the chain of events that could have been avoided if the other drivers were driving propperly.

I can agree with this.

And who can actually relate to it? I can think of plenty of times, on our A-roads when you get one slow driver who travels everywhere at 40mph. (In both 60 and 30 limits :nono: ). Because some people are incapable of overtaking, you get a line of 4 or so cars all following closely, despite the fact that you can still see it is safe for them to overtake.

Now if those folk are happy to plod along at 40, they should really leave a big enough gap so anyone who wants to drive (safely) at 60 can overtake one by one. But no, they don't so it only leaves the option of overtaking a 4 cars in one go. OK it is easier in a fast car as we know, but it is a greater risk.

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

plus cause its a ferrari, everyone assume's he is a young prick with loads of money and hasent got a clue how to drive, and he is also to blame

Yes, OR they make the more dangerous move of deliberately closing the gap on the car in front just to keepp the Ferrari driver on the wrong side of the road :nono:

i never overtake lol i darent, always see the bloke youve overtook at the next traffic lights anyway from my experience lol.
