Right had a new kitchen fitted a few weeks ago and we had 2 seperate lights in the kitchen so the sparky wired them so they both came on together from either light switch and all was well.

Until

We came to fit the new light fittings!!

The first one went up fine, normal wires, black, red and earth so wired them up and fitted up the light.....going great guns now

Or so i thought.

Took the second light fitting down and jesus!! how many wires. theres 4 feeds, 3 being the normal, red, black and earth, another being blue, yellow, red and earth.

Connected them as per what was there (or what i thought) and bingo we have lights :) but there on all the time :(

Any help appreciated or do i call an electrician?? i'm pretty good with electrics but i dont think i would be comfortable with this??

Cheers

Mike

i do access control as a locksmith, by the sound of it you have the wires going to a permanant feed somewhere. Basically one wire will be a trigger to the other light if you post a pic of wireing i can probably tell you, did you use a multimeter or test light?

sounds like you have the switch wire and the permenant feed mixed uo somewhere

Agree 100%.

This might help you a bit!?!.....

just done a quick diagram :)

who ever completes the wires gets a prize :D

take it u still havent fixed it? just dont wanna sit workin it out if u have lol

on switch 2 has he used an earth as a switch wire? ie whats it conected to

I'm a sparky!!

Right, the first lights all fine... so on to the second light, first off you will have the feed in and the feed out, this fromthe board and then to the next light, these will be 2 red 2 black and 2 earth.

Next you have your switch wire which normally is just red and black, the yellow blue and red wiring is normally done at the switch on the wall, however the guy that done this must have been lazy! :nono:

The other red black and earth are going to light number one.

Now what you need to do is find the feed in and out and chock block the reds together black together and ALL earths together. Next find the 2 core switch line(red black earth) it and put the red in with the first 2 reds. the black put in a chock block on its own, this becomes live when you flick the switch,it should have some red sleaving over it as well. Next we come to the 3 core take the yellow and connect it to the red of the LIGHT Take the blue and connect it in withe the black one you have sleaved red and the red one put in with the the other red you have connected. then take the frist 2 black you connected together and connect them to the black on the LIGHT fitting and the earths well from here i think it quiet obvious ;)

This should be right, if you still have probs let me know and i'll tall you through a re wire of the lights which would be alot easier, you just need enought 2 core cable to get form light number 1 to the switch on the wall, it dead easy as well
