The MOT is due so i was just checking around the car and found a boot on the steering rack split.I cut it off ready for the replacement only to find a large thick washer type thing on the shaft which was loose :confused: Should this be loose or has it sheard off something. :(

its a "steering gear spacer" and it comes with a rubber side wich must be fitted to the lock-plate by pushing up to it,looks like your rubber has come off it. the boot then pushes up to it and is held by a "boot band" hth ;)

no but mark were the old one comes off to and after fitting you,ll have to get the car tracked,the rubber side faces the rack

indeed just mark where thread is before unscrewing tie rod, then refit to same mark.
