Nissan contemplated putting in the 4 wheel drive ATTESSA system on the Z but would have added more lard and made the car look like an ant hill mob getaway car! LOL

Yep Timbos right, Nissan decided against 4 wheel drive due to weight and it would have meant a higher body line, hence spoiling the nice low sports car look.

Nissan did make a few prototypes(approx 1987+) called the Mid-4, which had a mid mounted VG30DETT, multi-link front and rear suspension, Super HICAS and the ATTESSA system(4wd system used on the GTR and GTi-R I belive)

 

Some Z owners in Japan have swapped the VG30DETT for the RB26DETT found in the GTR.

Note:

Nissan did make a Z31 300ZX with a RB20DET(2 litre Turbo inline 6) called the 200ZR-I or 200ZR-II(2+2 version)

 

As far as I know the Z32 can share the following R32 parts:

Front Brakes(also can use R33/R34)

Suspension Shocks/Springs

 

There maybe other bits an pieces - it would be good to swap the Z32 HICAS controller for the Skyline type with YAW control(if your Z has the electronic HICAS)!

1200+hp potential from RB26 can't be sniffed at though
