my lad recently bought an audi coupe ( 80 coupe ) it is immaculate

and low millage 56000 miles with full service and MOT's to prove millage

however last night he was driving home and the cam belt tensioner sheared off .......( belts were changed , tensioner not ) ....so now he has probable valve damage etc ....anybody had any experience of these heads and know if its worth replacing the cams , valves , springs etc with upgraded items or stick with VAG parts ...sometimes performance parts ( piper cams etc ) are cheaper than OE .......any advice ,links or pointers gratefully accepted

thanks Si ........by the way what product do you recomend for tyres to keep them shining like new on the sidewalls i think i remember you saying it was some kind of gel ?

steve

Meguires Endurance Gel is what I use. I usually put it on the car a day or two before I clean it. As it gives it time to cure and any residue left on the tyres will be thrown off them which usually ends up on the dropsides. Then when I clean the car, use a car shampoo on the wheels, but don't scrub the tyres. :)

I had an Audi Quattro coupe 2.3 20V and I took it to a main Audi dealer for a M.O.T and the ABS was playing up. Two months later they found out what was wrong with the ABS, it was the sender on the back wheel. All it needed for its M.O.T was a new exhaust a suspension bush and a sender for the ABS which was £90. Because they were too stupid to work out what was wrong the whole job cost me £2500, yes that’s right £2500.

Now I do all the work on my cars myself, if I can’t do the work I will not take it to a main dealer.
