Fayette County, Georgia police are investigating Benoit's house following the discovery of the bodies. Lieutenant Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department reported to ABC News that sheriffs entered his home on a "welfare check" after missing several appointments, leading to concerns.[85] Pope also stated the police are not searching for any suspects outside of the house, as the instruments of death were located at scene of the crime.[86]

 

Detective Bo Turner of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department told television station WAGA-TV that the case was being treated as a murder-suicide. The station reported that investigators believe that Benoit murdered his wife and son over the weekend and committed suicide sometime on Monday. [87]

 

During a press conference Tuesday, June 26, Fayette County district attorney Scott Ballard confirmed that Chris Benoit had murdered his wife and son. His wife was bound at the wrists and feet, while there were no signs of restraint on his son, both died of asphyxiation. It is reported that his wife died on Friday, his son died on Saturday, and Benoit killed himself later Saturday evening or early Sunday morning. Benoit's body was found dead of asphyxiation hanging by the cord of a weight machine in his basement. It was also reported that there was a Bible by both Nancy and Daniel's bodies.

his Son wasnt very big so they had been injecting him with growth hormones. In my view that is very wrong.

steroids, bloody druggies, men on steroids get violent, wouldnt mind but big pumped up men look fookin stupid anyway!

what reason would bring someone to do this sort of thing, obviously an underlying reason, depression maybe? Normal level headed people dont go round killing their families, so there must be more to it?

steroids have a terrible effect on peoples mental health.

suppose its like most entertainers. they have the fame and fortune but at what personal cost. most of the big american wrestlers spend most of the year away from home, always on the road so not seeing much of the family & freinds. i would imagine that it gets very depressing & cant be good for the health at all.

Yes it gets very depressing I am away all the time with my job, but havent thought about returning home and killing my family I just miss them a great deal.

Chris grew up in Edmonton, Canada, an hour away from where I live. They had a retired wrestler Bret Hart talk about him on the news last night and it was really hard to see. I can't believe someone would kill their own wife and son, his mental health must have not been right. There must have been signs though, his wife in 2003 filed for divorce for fear of her and her son's life but then dropped it.

true what fairladygirl says about the steroids, a couple of my pals munch those like smarties, ok they walk round like they have permanent rolls of carpet wedged under their arms, whatever does it for you I suppose. But they are now fooking animals and the slightest thing sets em of. best thing is they dont even realise they are being prats, doesnt suprise me that something like this has happened, considering everyone of those meathead leather arm chairs is popping more pills than somebody with aids, harsh enalagy i know, but 100% true. I only feel so sorry for the poor wife and child, especially the poor kiddy, terrible thing to happen.
