Tyre pressures to low maybe.

Non HICAS compatible steering boss, loss of speed signal from speedo cluster or misaligned steering wheel can cause this. Does it come on straight away or after driving for 10 mins or so?

Used to come on straight away but now after about 10 mins!! just fitted aftermarket steering wheel and hicas boss but hicas light was on previous to this

LOL what have tyre pressures got to do with it???

Noticed it came on with mine, then noticed a slow puncture with a tyre reading @ 8psi.

Just a thought m8, no need to be arsy.

Perhaps, i'll not nother posting.

could be the trye - i thought that was a little odd too (sorry Schumi).. but then, well - if Mr duff says that i can be due to misaligned steering - then i guess that was your cause.

My issue was due to the speedo cluster when i had this - Try duffs advice :)

Have you aligned the boss correctly?

So when you replaced the tyre/sorted the puncture did the hicas light go out?

Forget about the new boss/wheel for the minute it was doing this b4 i changed them!!

Does the steering go heavy when the light comes on?

Sorry mate, I wasn't being arsy just saying it's nothing to do with wheels/tyres :)

Punctures or wheel alignment don't cause HICAS problems - only low fluid, steering wheel/boss fitting errors or speed sensor/Jap speed convertors will make the HICAS light come on.

If the wheel alignment was that far out to trigger the HICAS your wheels would be pointing at about 45 degrees to the kerb.

If the wheel hasn't been put on straight to the HICAS boss or the boss wasn't fitted properly then the ECU thinks you're driving round a never ending bend and realises something is wrong so disables the system after a few minutes. Same if it doesn't get a speed signal from the box but this will also make the speed sensitive power steering go heavy.

Must be either a faulty speed sensor on the box or if it's an import there might be a problem with the kph/mph speed converter behind the clocks.

Try disconnecting it for a while and see if the light stops coming on :)

Cars a uk model Chris..disconnect what the speed convertor [i have not got] or do you mean speed sensor

Sounds like dry joints on the speedo unit within the cluster, have you got another unit to try?

I meant disconnect the convertor if its an import but as it's a UK the problem must lie with the speed sensor on the gearbox not sending a signal.

I had this on mine and it's pretty easy to swap.

Could be a dodgy set of clocks as Andy says but I've not seen that problem much TBH

Oh and does the streering go heavy when the light comes on??? LOL

If the speed sensor was dead then the speedo would be too ;)

Ignore Andy, he doesn't know what he's on about :D

By the way, does the streering go heavy when the light comes on??? LOL

Well when mine went the speedo worked most of the time but very occasionaly dropped slowly to zero then jumped back to the correct reading.

HICAS light was on all the time though

LOL thats a strange one then chris, was it with the auto box fitted?

Seeing it more and more now with dry joints on the speedo unit circuit board, not too difficult to fix :)

Yes that was when it had the autoshatick box LOL

Noticed it as steering going heavy when parking then going stupidly light at speed so the car was difficult to keep in a straight line.

99% of time the speedo worked fine though which is odd.
