I'm looking at buying a Pioneer DEH-P9800BT head unit and the RRP is about £700.00 here.

Cheapest I've seen in UK is £395.00 but...

There's a few on eBay U.S for a couple of hundred quid but it states that FM radio may not work with all frequencies outside the U.S.

Has anyone imported head units before and know if it will work in the UK as they ship worldwide and may just be covering their backs.

Not sure on U.S radio frequencies

There's also a seller in Hong Kong but I know Japanese radio's used to need a range expander which I want to avoid.

US radio frequencies are out of range of UK frequencies...ie, US radio stations are between something like 107 and 117 , Japanese are at the lower end of the spectrum which is why you can only get radio 2 on your imported Japanese radios.

Now; you can buy frequency expanders, which change the range in the frequency the radio is looking at. But with Japanese radios, they don't come with RDS, I don't even think that US radio stations transmit in RDS either, so the non-EU Pioneer models will not have this feature built into them. So you won't be able to tell what station you are listening to, other than the HU displaying the frequency.

Cheers Si :)

I'll buy a UK one then, no point having a flash unit and not getting the proper display and RDS etc

It might be worth doing some extra investigation into the features on the headunit. I bought a top 'o the range Alpine unit from the states a couple of years ago and they have an option to change the world zone that you are using it in. Just a thought.
