hellraiser
go to winkinsons buy there spray engine degreaser called GUNK for £2.49 i di it this weekend on my girlfriends car engine and it was caked in oil. i cleaned it enough to paint it here is the result. the engine was looking worse than the gearbox does in the picture!!! :headvswal leave it on for the suggested time and use a small wire brush to agitate the worst areas. its quite satisfying once you get it done. greg
Now for some real advice: downside it leaves the engine in a greasy film and everytime you touch it you get dirty hands :( looks good though :D
Retro620ti
rather than that use the rubber and vinyl cleaner from autoglym, use it on mine and doesnt leave it greasy
