Hi there

I am going to be changing my suspension this weekend, and i was just looking in the manual at the front suspension and there is a gasket that goes between the top mount and the suspension turret, see pic below i have put a arrow to it. Question is what do they do, are they important and what are they made out of? any info would be great Cheers Jay :duffer:

You can see the gasket on a lot of cars as they tend to be a bit out of place - they're paper as far as I remember. So if desperate you could cut one out of a sheet of gasket paper (or a Weetabix box LOL ! ).

mine where knackered when i did mine snd fell apart so neglected to put any in in, dont think it causes a problem, although i have a feeling it might have something to do with the annoying squeeking i'm getting now

most probably!!

they're a standard nissan gasket, so should be available from stock at main stealer - part numbers:

Front - 54329-33P00

Rear - 55338-35F00

thought that might be the case, what a bummer that is, looks like i'll have to have them out again then, bugger. that job was a right pig an all. doesnt really help having rubbish spring compressors, that get in the way of everything. oh well time to don the boiler suit again.

Cheers for that.

if you cant get hold of the gaskets fella use abit of mastic, its only a paper gasket, ive whacked abit silicon sealant around the top of mine so didnt have to take the damn things out again, hence the sqeeking has stopped.

spring compressors?? no need to compress the springs - just get someone to pull the hub down to give you clearance.

 for safety though

there has been incidents where springs have shot off at peoples heads not good :(

But you're not removing the single top nut (that holds the spring & shock together with the top mount), just the two that hold the top mount to the body? (Based on my memory of how it all went together, anyway)

thats right but to disasemble the body of the shock you need to remove spring obviously so IMO its safer to use spring compressors! idiotic if you dont

the gasket to be replaced only needs the top mount dropping out as you say, but the guy is replacing the lot hence the reply

greg

Hmm - I read it that he'd already replaced everything, but simply hadn't replaced the gasket (hence Rich's reply of 'just stand on the hub').. But yes - it was 'dutchy' who'd already done the job, not the OP..

sorry for the confusion - i was only talking about puttin the gasket in... even i'm not brave/ stupid enough to seperate the shocks without a compressor!

Thanks for all the replies guys, I have gone and bought some thick gasket paper to make some as nissan wanted £5 for each gasket.....which i think is a little over the top. so happy days hopefull no more bangs n squeaks once all suspension is swopped over.... :hyper: :hyper:
