Anyone had this prob out there. :headvswal

Car was lying for two weeks and when i went to start it it the battery was dead so i put charged battery in and tried to start and it back fired a few times then started. I drove it around the block and after turning it off could not start again as if it was flooding.Went to it the next day and after turning the engine over for ages with foot on the peddal it eventually started. When i turned it off it wont start again any ideas

i have had a similar problem but maybe not the same.

went away for a week and when i came back to start the car it was turning over but not catching spent a while checking all the PTU, MAF connectors etc but decided it could be flooded so wiped out the fuel pump fuse turned it over a couple of times to dry the plugs then pushed a screw driver down the hole in the cam cover to hold open the throttle and left it for a few hours to dry out. when i went back and put the fuel pump fuse back in i could eventually start it.

dont know what caused the initial problem but have seen some threads where peoples ECU's have gone funny and the injectors kept firing. Replaced my ECU now and problem has not reaccured.

Pop the contacts off and give them a thorough clean first and see if that makes any difference. Is it cutting out? Or are you simply having problems with starting it? When you turn the engine over, does the rotation speed slow down of the starter (hinting at battery dying) or does it just cough and splutter?

cheers guys i managed to get it going today i took all the plugs out and gave them a good clean then took the plugs off the ptu and cleaned them to and it started ok.

good to go till the next hurdle thanks for the responces Tam.

If the car backfired whilst starting it often relates to the car over fuelling and caused by the ECU temp sensor being fooked or grotty connections, hence why it started 1st time when you cleaned the plugs, just something to bear in mind

cheers smithy i think that ill take a day out and cleen all connections under the hood and hopefully that should do it for a while.

you know what it could be.. i had the same problem a couple months ago. it was my starter. i know it sounds weird, i thought so too. i drive my car evryday and one day it wouldn't turn on for me. i had it jumped and it started right up for me. i had it tested and my mechanic said everything was fine. (alternator, batterie etc.) said it was the starter. he said if i tried to turn the car on long enough the car would turn on, but would eventually go out completely. a couple days later the car would not come on and everytime i shut it off it wouldn't start up ( i needed a jump everytime i needed my car). changed my starter and is perfect.
