hi i was wondering if anyone can help.

my speedo was tempremental when i first got the car, but now seems to have stopped all together. if i'm going fast it will just start to move upto about 15mph but then drop again, or, will suddenly shoot up to whatever speed i'm doing and then just drop again.

i have no idea what it could be and would appreciate any help!

cheers guys!

hmmm......funny this one.

I have the same problem except mine works when it feels like it. If im going at 30mph, it'll read 30mph, then a minute later, it just drops back to reading 0 again.

Is this a common fault?

mines the same, i've had the clocks out and cleaned up all the connections etc and its stll the same, sometimes my mileage counter stops workin too

Same problem as you guys.I installed satelite/detector so I know my speed and have been told the intermittent problem could be a sensor on the gearbox..Not a high priority problem for me right now as many other things to do BUT...one day!

I'd agree sounds like a speed sensor, I'd also say that you need to watch which one your buying, there are different ones for Auto, Man, TT and NA by the looks of it.

cheers. I got a snooper when i got my car from car from mrsimonto but i'm wanting to get it fixed.

I was driving along one day, at the legal speed limit, then the speedo went round to where 200mph would b, and sat there for about 3 days!!!!

cheers for the advice guys. i'm a complete novice though so can someone tell me where the speed sensor is please??? thanks!

Dt the spped sensor is on the drivers side, of the gearbox I'll see if I can find the photo of it again.....but I'm sure its on the forom somewhere.......do a wee search for "speed sensor"

some people report trouble getting them out...mine is a 92 jap auto tt and came straight out....no problems....

If you get it off and it is the same as BigMinceys......he sold it to me for £30, you can have it for the same if you like.

Just PM me your details.

Ive had this problem before and my problem after replacing everything else first was down to dry solder joints on the speedo head circuit. If all else fails it will certainly be this!
