people may say uk based coastal towns i jest, but ive had some of the best weekends away in this country, especially when the weather is nice, all these so called "romantic" cities abroad are just given that name so as to be able to charge ridiculous prices.

There are some stunning locations in the UK, and something for everyone.

Kinda agree with you. I always prefer to go abroad and more often than not, I do. But there are some nice places for instance on the Welsh coast. Norfolk broads can be nice and if you don't mind inclement weather, then the outer hebridies.

I just hate tacky chavy seaside towns....won't name any names incase anyone on here actually lives there.

Barcelona all the way for me, has everything you want from your blurb.

Cant comment on the other places as not been, but your cant go wrong with a bit of Barca

You say it like a local! LOL...most English people simply call it Bruges! hehe Nice place though, went there about 10 years ago on a college trip.

I like Barcelona too. Some fantastic Gaudi architecture. Plus, the Segrada Familia is an amazing building.

Yup not to mention the bars, cafe's, restaurants, clubs, pubs, shops, casino, beach, marina, street performers. Great place.

I'm a fan of the European city break and have done a fair few over the years.

The one I'd suggest most of all is Slovenia's capital, Ljubljana.

Ok, that sounds like eastern Europe but it's really central Europe - just to the right of Italy.

Why? It's clean and cultured, there's plenty to see, it's a beautiful little city and all the good bits are in easy walking distance so you don't need to bother with public transport, location is pretty with the Julian Alps forming a picturesque backdrop, Easyjet fly there, it's pretty cheap (about a third of uk prices - the best hotels, bars, clubs and restaurants are very, very affordable - try that in Paris, Barcelona etc etc), the people are friendly, attractive, don't try to rip you off all the time and speak good English and it's not a popular tourist destination so there's no huge gangs of lads in footie shirts necking lager and shouting.

Hightly, highly recommended. Best weekend away I've ever done with the wife.

Otherwise:

Amsterdam - nice, been there 15+ times - great for romance with the wife as well as drug fuelled trips with the lads

Barcelona - also very nice, one of my favourites but milking tourists for money is big business there and gets wearing

Brugge - never been

Budapest - going soon

Munich - never been

New York - too far for a weekend

Paris - lovely but very, very pricey

Prague - going soon but filled with stag parties / hookers I hear

Rome - see Paris/Barcelona

Venice - see Paris/Barcelona

Well i have my list of 10 places.

You forgot to add ( MyGate ) to the poll? :D

I can only speak for those I've been to, but in order of preference (and it's a tough call because I love them all)

1. Amsterdam (no, not for the drugs, it's an amazing city, absolutely beautiful. And the government subsidises artists so I'm totally going to live there one fine day ;)))

2. New York (a bit far, as Mr. David points out, but, by gad, what a city. Had some of the best times in my life there, partying till 4am in a club at the top of one of the twin towers *RIP*, smokin jazz at the Blue Note at 2am, Greenwich Village full stop, the Gugenheim, MOMO, walking the bridge into Brooklyn, the club scene, the list is endless)

3. Barcelona (amazing city. Fantastic cultural heritage, great food, friendly locals and lots of sun. Perfick.)

4. Paris (I've a soft spot for Paris. If you can muster up the courage to speaka da lingo, even haltingly, everyone becomes a lot more friendly! Been 11 times now and I always find something new to explore. Get yourself down the Latin Quarter, the food is great and there's more atmosphere...though at night it gets "interesting". Catching a show at the Moulin Rouge is worth doing if you're coupled up.)

Also a fan of Berlin and Frankfurt (the latter is unusual I know but a real slice of old Germany in the old town, in the same city that has the most skyscrapers in Germany...was there a few months ago during the "Skyscraper Festival" which was a hoot...lots of apple beer :D).

Like I say, it's a tough decision but I'd go for Amsterdam.

If you do go for Amsterdam, I'd highly recommend the Supperclub.

Not so much a restaurant as an avante-guard dining experience. So they say! Toilets are 'hetero and homo' rather than male and female and the food is excellent.

ohhh barcelona and prague - tie so far!

Come on Barcelona.... imagine the sangria, sun, girls, (boys), bull fighting, flamenco shite and the paella... hmmmmmmmmm what a holiday!

Should have had Ireland on there mate. An amazing place, I would recommend Galway. Super friendly people, relaxed atmosphere, beautiful city, loads to do and the restaurants (I'm salivating!) the food is just out of this world.

come on wheres minehead on the list lmao

barcelona iss the best city in the world IMHO, so vibrant, architecture is out of this world, so much to see and do.

iv been there a fair few times and will def be going back for more.

as you know kirbz...Brugge...is a great place to Too party and watch the world go bye ...and great beer to ...

Oh, I voted Venice. I really like Paris but I havn't been to Venice and I think for a woman its got the romantic factor before you even get there.
