Just an idea but is there no way that you can raise the rear edge of the bonnet slightly to let the hot air out??

I have seen this done on a Few high powered Escorts.

Looks f*cking crap though.

if you lift the bonnet and take the weather seal from the rear lip of the engine bay where it meets the windscreen scuttle it does help a lot with cooling by generating air flow ..HOWEVER it is a weather seal and if you remove it you run the risk of the weather getting in when the car is stationary ....HTH

Like this? Quite a few guys in the US do it, especially in the sunshine states.

It doesn't look that great, but certainly better than some bonnet vents I've seen.

Took these in California last year when I ended up going to a US 300zx meet, you can't see too well, but the white one's had it done.

If you want it solely for cooling then you want a large vent in the nose panel and a huge cutout at the rear of the bonnet. You'll hence get a flow through of air. It'll draw the heat out rather than let it trickle out. ;)

:)

yes i agree, thats why i thiught of putting two Z31 bonnet vents in my bonnet but facing backwards so the air will flow through

Coollouvres, cost about £100, will need to have the bonnet repainted after its done, he only works Saturday mornings, you go down, he takes the bonnet off and an hour later you have louvres.

I like the way yours are angled...if you get my meaning, rather than just a scuttle pressed into it. It kinda flows with the bonnet lines.

The hardest part is deciding where to have them cut, once its done theres no turning back, they look very subtle in real life, the first picture was taken purposely to show them off, the second picture is a better representation of how they look.

They are done in exactly the right place. I've seen Z bonnets with the bloody thing covered in them. But yours is subtle, in the right area of the bonnet and looks good.

You can choose width, how many and what angle, the only real constriction is the strengtheners underneath the bonnet, I had one cut away so the louvres couls be placed where I wanted them, and so did James when he had his done (thats the one that Wozzer has now)

Thank you, its taken 5 years and a lot of work to get to that stage and it helps make it worth while when people make nice comments.

looks rather.... challenging! i bet cutting the stiffeners without catching the skin is an interesting job :smw:

Not really, just give him the bonnet and he will cut the stiffeners out before he does the louvres, all included in the price.
