740cc injectors, dual inlet, one afm, 370cc jwt chip??

I have a mate whos also a mechanic and used to work with me in a Garage!

His son owns a 300zx and has just installed 740cc injectors still using a 370cc tuned jwt eprom but he has divided his air intake so one side has the AFM on plus filter and the other side has just a filter on (no AFM)?

He told me this is possible and is running fine? even though the balance bar is still connected?

Apparently and i suppose it makes sense up to a degree, the afm only reads one side of the intake so the 740cc injectors squirt the right amount of fuel! is this really possible?

He is running a aftermarket walbro high flow pump too?

I know alot about different injection systems and designs but is this really possible without a new remapped Eprom? He said next time i am near his place pop in! Interesting?

You can and the car will run, but only as a temporary solution.(imo)

1. 740 cc injectors have a different injection time (time to open/close), to get this right and have the AFR levels within limits again: remap.

2. With a split intake system, the rhd bank will draw more air, because of the IACV and other (idle) regulation valves

You can use a secondary balance tube/hose between the left and right intake, but to make this work: remap.

3. if he's using 740cc, he probably also has aftermarket turbos..otherwise these injectors are super overkill.

Larger turbos means more (or different) load on the engine, this engine load data is in chip...to change and optimise it: remap

So, he should be better of by a custom remap of the chip.

Yes he has PE turbos.

Cheers for the info! I was not sure it was possible?

The last time i followed his zed he out smoked me Literally!! Cough, choke Lol

unless he has an safc to fool the ecu into thinking its only getting half the air flow then it just wont work, as lymon says it will run but badly i would have thought and it wont be long before he fooks the engine LOL

Its like the starship enterprise in his car Lol

To run twin intake the k value in the chip is doubled. To run 740cc/min injectors the k value in the chip is halved.

Therefore running both together will end up with the correct fueling. As Eric says though the injector open/close time is larger for bigger injectors so it won't be perfect. Idle air for both banks is taken from the passenger side intake pipe so this must be split to take from both intakes if running twin - JWT call this the driveability mod ;)
