Ok guys,

here we go again!

Erm, i was at the local market this afternoon and had a emissions test carried out. Erm.........didnt come back very good!

Because of the overfuelling, the guy carrying out the test reckons it's a straight MOT failure!

SO.......my question is: Does anyone know of how this is fixed? Is it just a matter of taking to a garage and getting them to tweek the ECU to reduce the fuelling levels??????

Cheers for any help!

easiest first stop is a coolant temp sensor and maybe a fuel temp sensor change, check for fault codes, someone may have earthed your fuel pump control unit if it failed and the fuel pump is on high power all the time because of this.As said before might be boost leak but at idle this shouldnt affect the result that much.

Cheers guys.

I dinnae really ken my way around the engine bay yet, so i was thinking that i could put it to Dastek (or similar) and see wot they could do.

You had an emissions test done at the market???

Take it to a specialist and let them have a look, they might actually know what they are talking about and it certainly isn't an MOT failure.

If it's not fueling correctly then it is probably a faulty sensor or could even be set up that way with a custom mapped ECU.

Is the car totally standard?

i bought it from mrsimonto on here. I'm sure it's standard. Its only had the fuel lines (smithy's) an the ptu replaced.

The emissions test was carried out by a guy from west lothian council. and said that the hydrocarbon levels we're reading off the scale!

But, on the topic of MOT failure, i thought that the emissions were only tested if the car was manufactured after 1992, when the catalytic converter regulations were introduced? Would i be wrong in thinking that?

Think yourself lucky it's not running lean!

Hook up Datscan if you can and see what the o2 and MAF sensors are doing.

Where will i get a datscan?

I ken it seems like i ken f**k all about my car, but i've only had it 4 days!!!

dont worry bud we all started somewhere

datascan is a ecu diagnostic program which wires up via your diag port in the drivers footwell and needs someone with a computer and cable to work

hmmmmmmmmm....cheers bud.

I've got a few local garages in mind, so i'll call around tomorrow and see if they can help me to pin point where the problem lies.

Cheers for all your help guys, much appreciated

Pretty sure you're right there, which is why I said it wouldn't fail an MOT :)

Cheers chris.

I'm gonna call an auto electrician and see if he can help me out. :)

You really need a Z specialist or at least someone with the Nissan Consult diagnostics so they can plug it in and see which sensor is not responding properly.

Your average garage will probably just take a guess and say you need a shit load of parts and hand you a big bill LOL

There might be someone up your way on this forum who will pop by and run a test :)

Emissions are tested reguardless, just it's based on different set of rules if it's before 1992. Mine failed on hydrocarbons as well as it was way off the scale by a good 5x or so. :mac1: Having said that the CO2 was well below what was allowed! :D Still doesnt meant I can drive it until it's sorted.

cheers guys.

I'll give out a shout on the regional forum, see if anyone can gimme a hand!

Are you gonna be in Glasgow anytime. I have Datascan on my works laptop, if you are gonna be through I could arrange to meet you somewhere and hook it up to see if we can see anything. My O2 sensors are both faulty and can be seen quite clearly.

Give me a shout either way.

Cheers John

Fuel pressure regulator sticking especially at idle giving a rich reading.

Faulty EGR valve not allowing some of the exhaust gasses back into the combustion chamber for a second burn so any un burnt fuel will pass strait out the exhaust that could give an over rich reading

John, i'm not over that way on a regular basis but i would b more than happy to come over especially if you'd b willing to help!

Erm, the cash flow is a bit short just now, my work made a c*ck up of paying me, but it should all b fixed out buy this weekend, HOPEFULLY!!!!

carl, thanks for your advice but surely if we connect up the datascan, and the fuel pressure regualtor is sticking, it will show up????

datascan wont show fuel pressure but will show if the fuel temp sensor is fubared, you will still need to connect a fuel pressure gauge to get fuel press
