there is an electrical plug on the seat belt reel in the door. i unplugged this and have had no problems since

Yeah, try and junk the auto-slack mechanism. It packs up overtime as the seatbelt re-coil speed changes due to wear and dirt.

Cheers lads the auto slack mechanism is getting unpluged tonight

What was it's intended purpose (Other than to annoy people)?

Hi,

They were designed as passive belts for the US market, where many drivers didn't bother to use their seatbelts.

Nissan mounted the seatbelts on the door, claiming that you could leave them belted and shuffle in and out of the car with the belts in place. Therefore they needed to remain slack to enable the doors to be opened.

Jez

The auto slack mechs are history and the belts are like they should be

this has saved be a few quid as i was going to buy new belts

So thanks for the tip

Chris
