Expected MPG?

Since I've never done a 'long' journey in the 300, what would be the MPG for a 500(ish) mile journey?

(Motorway driving, 80(ish)mph)

Your not lightly to get any more than 18mpg and if you run bigger injectors or turbos the figure will drop dramatically!

My experience is that a nice gentle 80mph will give about 24mpg with an auto and a little more with a manual.

Majority of my miles are to/fro work which is 30 mins of motorway.

Average 80/85 mph I get around 23mpg, same as Andy says above.

It may also vary on the fuel you use (eg Shell Optimax) but I've personally never noticed any significant difference.

yesp, I'm with AndyP and Smurf: 20 - 24 mpg regularly. Mostly Optimax but not when I can't find a Shell garage.

Never had to outrun a cuckolded booby, tho'.

Let me get my sums right here:

5 gallons in a litre.

60 litre tank..... 20/5 = 4MPL

Therefore 4*60 = 240 miles per tank!

So, about 100 GBP for a round trip of 500 miles!

Cheers

Now I'm not a spotter, but I only know this cos years ago I worked in a petrol station... it's 4.546 litres to a gallon.

So yeah, things sound about right... around £45 per tank, 240-250 miles per tank.

Course, it all depends on your exact treatment of the go faster pedal as well.. you certanily won't get much better MPG than this, though it's all too easy to get worse LOL

Aim to keep you boost gauge going towards the negative, cruse at 80 & 90 and you might see 300 miles before the light comes on smile.gif.If you've got cruse,do'nt keep it on for longer than an hour,it's bad for the engine to stay the same speed for long periods, switch it off for 10 minutes, fluctuate your speed, and you can go back to cruse again.

Tank holds about 72 litres. Round town can get 250-270 before the light says another £45. Seen 325 on the motorway staying below 90. Using cruise with a bit of throttle now and again to pass people. Love how it settles back at the set speed.

Warning boredom causes reaction that reduces fuel mileage and makes Gordon Brown smile more.

Willie

26 mpg recently on a long run at about 80 mph with a manual car.

i drive from hull to southampton and back occasionally. its about 260 miles one way and doing 90mph i use just over 3/4 of a tank, but that thats a clear run with no traffic. cost=35-40 quid, standard car apart from mongoose exhaust and air filter.

got about 280 out of my but I do not wait for light to come on and that is light footed.

I managed 360 miles on a tank cruising at 80-100ish a month ago on motorways (28mpg ish). Standard Unleaded. Standard auto tt 2+2. Normally get 21mpg on A-roads though
