Need some advice as I want to increase the performance of my zed. It is a 1990 jap spec manual conversion TT. I have just bought a boost controller but not yet fitted. The car has an induction kit, still has the cats and what looks like a mongoose cat back system fitted (twin pipe b/boxes).

My questions are - what boost is safe for my set up?, what chip would anyone recommend, how much is it likely to cost and where will I get one? Also, what power increase am I likely to get and will it drastically increase fuel consumption?

Any advice apreciated.

Stay away from anyone like superchips.

Both John Dixon and AndyP can make a chip to your exact requirements i believe. both forum members.

while we are on the subject, does anyone have the jwt ecu fitted??? i was thinking of this one but would like to no if it is as straight forward as swapping ecu and adding boost jets and bob's you're uncle

PM AndyP keith as he will be able to sort you out with a chip the next time he is in the NW area, which is quite often from what I understand.

As for safe boost running you should aim for approx 14/15psi (1 bar) once you have the chip fitted which should give you approx an extra 60bhp. until then leave it turned off. Fuel consumption on these cars all depend on how you drive them. You will see some increase in usage but nothing major unless you rag the car at every opportunity.

Correct me if i'm wrong but what i understand of the JWT chip ecu is that it's set up for American fuel which is a different octane here in the UK.

couldnt tell you to be honest, but if someone knows then please spill the beans coz i was thinking of getting one, better put that on hold for abit then

JWT do two versions of their chip, one for California (they have strange fuel) and federal, ie everywhere else. They do seem to work fine on UK fuel, a quite number of people here use them and probably many more who have bought copies off eBay etc.

I have a JWT...its fine never had any det issues on T-25 hybrids at 15ish psi or the T-28's at 12-13 psi. They are a bit too safe by all accounts though you can get better response by some timing tweaks here and there with one of Andy or JD's chips.
