Is it an easy job to wire my headlights so as the low beam stays on when the main beam is switched on? I could just wire it so it works but would I have to wire any more relays or anything into the circuit? Someone said I would have to use heavier duty wires?

Thanks

it can be done using a piece of wire & a diode linking the switched sides of the main/dip beam relays. the diode stops the feed running back down the wire so both dont stay on when on dip. it may take a while to find the correct 2 switched wires though. it would be easier doing it at the switch end at the dash. ideally you could do with finding out if they do run to relays.

Just need to bridge across the relays in the fusebox under the bonnet, done a few now, then bought HID's!!

Find the trigger for the full beam relay, run a wire, though an extra relay, to the main beam relay. Got a feeling its an earth trigger, cant remember exactly.

You dont need to do this with HID's, honest!

as shunter says. if both relays are in the fusebox then its easy. i will take a look on mine over the weekend and supply a diagram.

Thanks Shunter. I will upgrade to HID's soon but other things need doing first so I will try and use your method.

All I did was ground the low beam to my battery. Works a treat and a lot easier to do then the wiring thingy above!

if anything it's more important to do it with HID's so that they don't flick on & off when flashing lights. Also a bit scary when driving at night on back roads, swith to dip and it goes pitch black for a few moments while the HID's come up to temp

sorry, not understanding, isn't it already grounded?

If you wired it up to the normal plug, when you switch to high beam it will turn your low beam off. Using the + on the plug and grounding the low beam to your battery stops the low beam from going off when flashing/turning on your high beam.

Well, it does so on mine and it saves my HID from dying early!

Do uk cars do this or is it just imports i know imports have hc3 bulbs, is the mod the same.

No UK cars (well mine does anyway) have a dim dip. IE the round headlamp has 2 brightnesses. First one comes on with the side lights and then you have the normal headlights but when I do full beam the normal headlights go out. Gonna make HID's interesting me thinks.

i fitted hids from the last dta group buy to my old uk spec zed, had no problems installing it but you lose the sidelight illumination in the round light :)

I can live with that :D

Ive got a set of Danny's £99 HID's enroute :hyper:

excellent, i've done what you suggested and it was quick and easy and sorts out most of the problem. full beam and the HIDs together is awsome :)

the only small problem is that when you flash someone with your lights off, the HIDs flash as well. which is where i guess the more complicated method benefits.

make 2 small wires ring crimp at one end and blade recepticle crimp at the other end, (alternativly cut blade crimp off existing wire and fit ring crimp)

fit as pictures , unplug black HID wire from where it is and via new wire screw it to a convenient bit of chasis

Why's this?

This is bad for the HID ballasts.

Try not to flash with the lights off! :p I would do the more complicated way but I can't be bothered for now and as it is, it works well. I dont see any situation where I would flash my high beam while my lights are off anyway. Just use a hand gesture! :hyper:

So what you are saying as I understand it is,just connect the existing earth wire that comes with HID straight to body earth ? Is this correct Bud?

Yup, that's right. If plugging it up to the body doesnt work then just plug it direct to the battery like mine.

Just dont flash the high beams with the low beams off. Like I've said before, the only time you'll be doing that is during the day! In which case a nice hand gesture will do fine!
