Hi All,

Is there anywhere on here or out there that has a list of what is different between the different series 300zx's?

I hear people talking about series 1 and 2 and occasionally 4.

What are the differences?

Cheers,

Michael.

is it common for a 300zx to be a mixture of series 1 and 2? or are there other differences between Jap and UK models?

All uk cars has seat belts on the B-pillar, rather than the door, whereas Jap series 1 had them on the door.

Cheers!!

My Jap car has them on the doors, but it has power seats.......confused me whether it was series 1 or two. It also has electric fold in mirrors, but I assume that is a standard Jap thing then

folding mirrors are a standard jap thing. my 300 has the belts on the door and powered drivers seat but normal passenger seat

Cheers!!

The thing is....................The 300ZX is getting on now and since it was introduced (Z32) that is, a lot of owners who like the standard car do upgrades with parts from newer models therefore you could well end up with a bitza? '99 spec is the most common upgrade with the different front end and slightly more modern lights and all. Thats how I see it anyway.

UK's had 3 point rear belts and J-spec series one at least has 2 point rear belts. UK auto's have a larger oil cooler for the autobox inside the rad (4 pipes and not 2) and a larger oil cooler for the engine. UK manuals have a diff cooler. UK zeds are limited to 155 and j-spec 112 but both easily to overcome. UK cars have headlamp washers.

Totally agree with Vini.

Mines a late JSpec series one, but I have the series two Air-Con control, 99 spec front bumper and rear lights. Rear UK bumper but with illuminated side markers in it (unique AFAIK) The possibilities are endless!! :D

Bearing that in mind IMO it takes no value away from your car at all. I think in all honesty it may even make it worth a few bob more. I know a few will probably disagree and say if you change anything for more modern parts it devalues the car? Enthusiasm can get the better of some people and they see any changes as wrong and that counts for everything including Ford Cortinas of which I have had my fair share but never imagined they would be worth so much money now in factory shape.

can see all about it on http://www.300zx.org.uk

That makes my car a series III without the series III spoiler and with the series IV brakes. It's not like that now as I've vandalised it to suit me, but when i bought it it was still standard.

All in all it is proberbly right as the car was first registered new in November 94 and acording to the Chassis number Nissan say it should have the new type injectors but it never has had. Definately a cusp car.

There's always a bit of mix 'n' match around the changeover periods from one model to another. Mine was the same as it's early Series II but had some less obvious Series I parts.

having checked(thanks for the link takemetothepub) ive got a series 4 with the wierd rear spoiler,i used to hate that spoiler and was determined to change it but i kinda like it now,i still dont like the front bumper on my series though, much prefer the earlier ones! all of this is news to me,so...great thread!

i also like that rear spoiler... what is different about your front bumper though? afaik the front bumper was only changed for the 99 specs. the only difference in the earlier models being the intercooler inlets for the tt's

As Joely says front bumper is same from 89-98 and was only changed in 99. You must have aftermarket bumper ?

erm, you've got me there,i assumed mine was standard,i saw one down the workshop with with 3 vents either side of the front bumper at the bottom but mine is just smooth all the way round, dont know how to post photos, but there are examples of both on google images. i prefer the ones with 3 vents at each side...which one is mine then? (without seeing it)lol

your right, it is standard... these were supllied on the n/a versions. the tt versions had the intake ducts to feed air to the intercoolers.

if yours is a tt... you have a problem :p

nah, mine is a n/a! phew! ok to amend then...i prefer the tt front bumper! while we are on this subject mine is a 2+2 and it looks so much longer than most on this site. do many people have 2+2's?

yeah, just put up a wanted ad on here for a standard tt bumper, spray it up and slam it on :)

2+2's are the most common, but there are many people on here with short wheel base versions :)

yeah i just read that guys post about the 96 he is selling. having read that and all these posts lately i now know that mine is a lwb 96 series 4 version s,n/a,auto,black cloth interior, all standard and ive just had the cam belt done with mjp auto's,he's done all the work since day one on it. knowing all this it seems more beneficial to keep it standard. just had it m.o.t'd last week and they said it needs a ball joint in the front suspension replaced but not urgent(still passed) so ive booked it in with mike again, also the bloody cenral locking has stopped working with the alarm so ive got to use they key all the time now! he's gonna sort that too and then it will be 100%

just reading the posts on this site has told me so much already! its good! i mean i know these are good cars and ive always loved em but its nice to have this site where everybody loves em! not like buying a focus eh?

I would say about 90%+ on this site and in UK are 2+2's ...easiest way to see from exterior pics is that if the Filler cap is in front of the Wheel arch then its a SWB and if its behind the wheel arch then its a 2+2
