Hi all,

My 300zx is running pretty rough. The idle has always been low and lumpy since i bought it a year ago. Last month the radiator went so i dropped it into nissan, while it was there i got them to do a service and look at the idle problem. They adjusted it up to about 850/900. It was fine for a day or so but now its worse than before. its ok on start up but after 5 mins of driving it is like its not firing on all cylinders. when driving at over 2500/3000 revs it runs perfectly. As soon as i coast or stop its rough again.

This has all happened since nissan adjusted the idle.

Ive got it booked into a pretty good tuning garage next thursday and would like some info to give them.

Would be grateful for some ideas,

Cheers Paul.

check the coil packs (connectors) and dont take the car back to nissan as you,ll find your wallat and motor will begin to suffer ;)

Cheers mate, will have a look at that myself.

The Nissan garage i went to was relctant to even look at. I got turned down by 2 other Nissan garages, they told me that they dont work on them anymore! WTF, how can they abandon them all together??

Anyone else had similar problems? I just need a few ideas to suggest to the tuning place im taking it to.

Thanks ppl

Paul

Well isnt this a coincedence....Mine is doing the exact same thing - I've got an exhaust leak in the section holding the catalytic convertor that MR Duff is sorting out for me - Its got us stumped at the moment - I changed my plugs and it made no difference. - I reckon its either a vacuum leak or it could be a fault in the airflow meter as mentioned above.....I'll be sure to post up what Andy tries and hofeully finds as the cure.....

Id ask someone to put it on a conzult and check the tps readings.

I bet some spotty punk at nissan has upped your tickover by manually moving the tps.

Could be wrong but thats my guess.

Put money on it you've got a dodgy Air Flow Meter... Try and borrow a good one of a Zed which you know is working and see if this cures the problem... Mine was running like this for a while but soon as I change my AFM when my old one packed up all my lumpy running problems and idle we're cured!!!

hello mate,i had an erratic idle problem on mine too, seems to be quite common,i took it to mike feeney(mjp autos) who is in brentwood which shouldnt be to far from you. he is on the traders page and is a good guy,i go to him for everything now!lol although my problem was solved it still hunts for revs a bit when i put the air con on but without it on it seems ok. cant remember what he did,i know he tried a differnet air flow meter and it didnt change it so he cleaned some stuff and tuned it and its ok now but was well rough at one time. good luck mate
