Had my car at what you call a MOT test. Failed because Co2 was to high. even tried to pull the pipe to the fuel dampner. Only one ecu error code number 54 when I checked. (need to replace my ecu soon) (and yes it is a manual) Soo, any tips to what I can do to get the co2 down?

Going to check the plugs of course.

wouldn't the 02 sensor come up when you check the ecu for failure codes??

Only if it's disconnected. If one or both has failed then the car will run rich (or lean) depending on whether they fail low or high.

is 54 not the det sensor? if it is then itl be running retarded timing and rich as hell, that would explain the CO being high

suscpect that the o2 sensor don't work as they should... any way to messure them or something. Also suspect a vaccum leak... Fitted an apexi boost controller. I don't get more than 0.4 bar when I turn it off... And no ecu error codes. Tried to reset the ecu too but made no difference... just need to make a vacum tester............

Your allowed up to 3.500 CO% emissions on the MOT, mine was 0.641!

That's UK for a non-cat car, this is in Norway - could be very different ....

i hope you mean CO as CO2 should be higher!

you need to test to see if the O2 sensors are switching, you should be able to test this with your datascan tool.

what readings were you getting?

I've got datascan!

Datascan should show both the O2 sensors flicking about from [almost] one extreme to the other when the engine is warm and revving.

Fair point, I didn't think of that.

It was CO% vol that was 0.641 and HC ppm vol was 98, max limit allowed 1200. Thought that was good or am I wrong?

Well. haven't really taken the time to learn datascan. Is it the A/F ratio that I should look at?? Logged a run. Don't know what to look for... I would be grateful if anyone could tell me what to look for or look at the logg

  • Author

The A/F was lean 99% of the time. Jumped to ritch twice on the log. One time under driving (Floored), another time when I was standing still and just reving. (4000 - 5000 rpm). Other than that. Just lean mixture

Anyone willing to take a look at the logg from datascan?

You should be looking for the "O2 Sensor" reading.

You will probably have to go in to the settings and add the "O2 Sensor RH" to get the other dial too.

  • Author

Here are the results:

O2 sensor: 28

02 sensor RH: 46

RPM: 950

Water temp: 88

A/F ratio: lean (as always...??)

Air flow: 1,20

AAC: 20

A/F base : 109

Duty cycle: 0,62

They should both flick almost right round, then back, then round again etc very quickly when you rev the engine.

If not they are either "lazy" or faulty.

  • Author

Theres no flicking. The 02 sensor flicked once when I reved the engine to around 5000 - 6000 rpm. That static again..

They should be flicking up/down like mad when revving and the Lean/Rich will change with them.

If not they are not working properly.

Most peoples Zeds I've seen don't either actually, but they pass the MOT ok.

So new 02 sensors. Will the A/F ratio go back to normal again then?
