Anyone near Redhill with an accurate boost gauge?

I've had 3 autometer gauges now, all giving different readings. The latest one does at least read zero when switched off, but only 11psi at max boost using boost jets.

I'm still not really confident that the figure is accurate, so I don't want to put smaller jets in and risk blowing the engine without checking that the 11psi is accurate first. Anyone with an accurate boost gauge near Redhill that I can hook up to my car temporarily?

Also, during testing my undertray fell off mad.gif . Is it a bad idea to drive the car without the undertray or is it OK until it rains?

Strange my Autometer reads correct had it tested with one of them big hand held jobs, and it reads the same 14.5psi.

Thanks Craig. I'll try and get hold of some rubber hose and I'll give you a shout.

have you disconnected the stock boost solenoids yet ?

Isn't that only if you're installing a boost controller?

if you're using boostjets then DON'T disconnect the solenoids.

it'll cause the car to run in safetyboost..

Dave let me know, how it goes with your test with Craig, Just installed my autometer gauge in my A pillar pod, it shows 9psi at full boost at the moment, but I haven't got proper boost controller just silly bleed valves.

  • 4 weeks later...

Craig and I tested the 2 gauges on my car tonight and they seem to be pretty close when on boost (although not all that close under vacuum).

Given the fact that it was raining and the roads were pretty wet, we had to spend a bit too much time looking where we were going to concentrate totally on the gauges. I can't imagine that the readings were absolutely accurate, but close enough I suspect.

Craig's blitz gauge read 0.75Kg/cm and my autometer read 11psi under full boost with boost jets. That's a pretty good match considering the conditions and the size of the scale on the gauges.

We then hooked up Craig's gauge to his car and tested again against his AVC-R boost gauge. Comparing the 2 of these was even more difficult than comparing two analogue gauges, although at least Craig has traction control!

Anyway, it seemed that the AVC-R was reading around 0.05Kg/cm higher than the Blitz - 0.85 rather than 0.80 at full boost. The difference equates to around 0.7psi.

Overall, I'm happy that all 3 gauges are fairly accurate, but it did seem that the AVC-R read a bit more than the other 2.

Anyway, I'm keeping this Autometer gauge. Thanks Smithy! smile.gif

And thanks to Craig too. smile.gif
