Used a boost leak detector to check for boost leaks and i can hear air escaping from the back of the engine (see pic). Has anyone got a picture of the back of the engine that shows which boost pipes it could be?

Thanks

Doe's the engine idle quite high by any chance?

Actually recently it has been idling higher than normal but only intermittently. Do you think it could be the EGR valve?

get some carb/brake cleaner and while its ticking over spray the pipes you think mite be causeing the problem, if the revs rise you found your leak

Should be pretty easy to locate there.

The only boost related pipes are off the red balance bar across the top of the engine. Check the small pipes are firmly on and not split.

Might be worth tightening the balance bar down and maybe checking/replacing the "O" ring seals under it.

No i had the same problem! Mine also sounded like a boost leak in the same place! Did various tests, Engine run very smooth! If you had air getting into the Engine via another source and it is not metered it will cause the Engine to run a bit uneven or lumpy! I traced it down to this! The cold air Regulator ! :wack: The pin inside had come out of its seat causing it to be partially open when it is warm giving a high rpm on Idle and a boost leak noise which is quite noticable. :)

I had to clean it and glue the pin back in as the seat had worn causing the pin to pop out under boost.

If you take it off and look through one end while it is still warm and the engine has previously been running for at least 30 mins, you should not be able to see any light through the other side. When the pin pops out of its seat it causes the Door to be open all the time as the plate will be in the wrong position when hot or cold. The pin is seen under the Brown Door or Plate..The spring should be under similair tension when you take it apart not untensioned!! Also sometimes the Rubber hose connected to this may perish causing a leak but the Engine will not run too nice as the Air will be un metered. It is well worth checking this Part first :)

Sorry should have mentioned that it is not coming from the top of the engine but behind and a bit down. Located somewhere near the heater matrix pipe work.

Where exactly is this located?

Yes that is correct Lol! Been there before! I spent at least a whole day with the engine running (£££££) and a can of easy start :wack: Vaccum gauge and a strethascope :wack: :)
