Hi guys, i know its not a good idea to jet wash the engine bay, but mine is so filthy it spoils the rest of the car.

Do you think its safe to get some gunk either spray or brush on and just rinse it off with a hose pipe with no pressure.

thanks

yes... just cover up electrical things such as battery, alarm siren, ptu etc etc. but be warned, doing this has caused many problems for a few people until it drys out, it can seep into electrical connectors so be careful :)

thats what im worried about, knowing my luck it will all go tits up ! But am in right in thinking that if i cover up all the bits and leave the engine running whilst i do it there is less chance of it going wrong ?

It's a lot of work getting into all those small places. I used one of them small sponges with the green stuff on one side (used for washing up). Use the sponge damp with some washing up liquid, only use the sponge on paint or you will scratch it with the green side. Doing it this way means you won’t get the engine too wet. It worked on mine.

I'd try using the sponge and some hot soapy water as the smell of gunk lingers and filters into the cabin (cockpit) i found that sparaying Fairy Active Foam to be a good de-greaser and just wipe it off. It also smells a lot better.

looks like a great job ill have to give it a go

WHAT EVER YOU DO NOT AND I MEAN DO NOT LEAVE THE ENGINE RUNNING YOU HAVE A BIG CHANCE OF CRACKING THE HEAD OR BLOCK, my advice would be to leave the engine over night to go cold, get out with cling film cover cover all your electrics like fuse boxes, alarm, ptu even try and cover up the coil pack's to stop water getting to them, get some degreaser and spray it liberally over the engine use a brush to clean the parts and use a low pressure hose or watering can to rinse of the degresser and keep doing this until clean, then dress up the plastics using a silicon restorer leave it for a good hour with the bonnet up and then start her up and away you go

no prob where do you live cus if your local to me i can give you some chemicals for the job ( used to be a pro valeter for porsche) i got loads and i mean loads of chemicals for various bits, or i could do the work for ya if your worried
