Just buying an A4 TDi

110ps model (98 - pre facelift).

 

Anyone know if them ecu chips are worth it - 25% extra power and more mpg?

Bit wary of anything ebay... :)

 

Test drove it and its a lovely car - on test drive it returned 47.8 average mpg :D

Gonna be the new daily drive - 100K on it but these things still sell when theres 240K on them.

    very good cars mate... if you do get it chipped, get it done properly! plenty of companies out there do it and its totally reversable if you require. the whole range have the same engine and the only difference is the chip map so you can be safe in the know that your engine is still running well within its safe capabilties. :)

    I tryed the flee bay chip and it just made the bottom end torque vertually disappear so it felt like you were getting more when it returned furthet up the rev scale. My feul consumption went up as well.

     

    The I got Diesel Tuner in Chester to do a proper ECU chip and more power, more torque right through rev range and more MPG. My mate has the Passat with the same 110ps engine as the Audi and the difference to his car is really impressive.

     

    I'm sure Diesel Tuner is a franchise and therefore there should be one near you.

    Watch out the front suspension on these are complicated and rumoured to require a rebuild every 60k, also the head gasket are little prone to going!
