Hi everyone

My car unfortunatly started playing yesterday. When I let off the power the car almost stalls then rises to about 1.5k and then drops again, It does this for a few seconds and then evens out so it's like the ecu is re-learning or something. The boost is also poor and quite lumpy but the car runs ok between boost and idle.

There's also a really strong smell of petrol from the exhaust.

I have checked the ecu and it is coming up all clear. I have also tested the o2 sensors here but they were flashing more like 6 or 7 times in 10 seconds instead of 5 times, could this mean anything??

Could the temp sensor affect idle and boost and could the egr do this also because there was someone on here with similar probs that had an egr problem??

Thanks

Really sorry to hear that chris mate :(

Im a complete idiot when it comes to engines and bits but is it happening when its warmed up (lupiness and spluttering) because i was told when my black car was doing that it could have been the PTU which was affecting the driving side if it.

Ill wait to be shot down but other then that im out, sorry.

Sounds like a boost leak to me. The O2s flashing at that rate is fine. Check non of the small vac lines have popped off. Also check all coilpack connectors are fully seated. Let me know how you get on :)

That's what it was on mine.

There are 4 pipes in the same area as the air filter just underneath the pipes that go to the filter. They have all been blanked 2 of them with wooden plugs. One of these on the left hand side had come out. Put it back in and it began to idle again. So I took it out for a test drive. Seemed ok, boosted fine a couple of times and then the third time there was a pop and no boost and idling badly again

Got it home and the plug had popped out again and I noticed there is black smoke from the exhaust. Replaced the plug again and it not quite idling properly but nearly. Only thing is when I rev it a bit there is a bit of black smoke coming from the exhaust. I thought this was excess petrol, is that right?? Could it just be that the ecu needs to relearn it's settings. I just don't want to take it out again if I'm going to do more damage??

I definitly owe some beers for the boost leak pointer by the way, cheers

Try resetting the ECU by leaving the battery off overnight. It may well have tried to relearn the airflows with the plug out. Black smoke will indeed be excess fuel :)

Just wanted to say cheers all for the info, by the time I got into work today the zed was purring like a kitten again

I definitely owe a few beers when I finally make it to a meet :duffer:
