go on then smart arse make me some ball valves by hand eigh! i can do it but would take me ages compaire to a manual lathe. i should have put "it would be more economically viable for you to consider taking it to a cnc shop as the time it would take me to do the job possibly wouldn't be worth it"

smaller machines then you. i have a colchester 2000,xyz protrak edge 2 axis cnc mill, xyz sm2000 2 axis cnc X2.plus a couple of manual mills.

other side are woodworking tools used for plastic machining. eg planers, routers, spindles etc.

we make anything from one off boat pulleys to batch work (mainly plastic) i mainly get the metal jobs eg stainless steel as most of the workshop stuff is for the food industry (full tooling prototyping to a set for production)

put it this way bet everyone on this forum has ate something that i made the tooling for ;)

That pic brings memories flooding back, sered my aprenticeship at the ROF

Brings my memories back too! I can still smell the cutting fluid to this day. That and Castrol R, mmmm!

Gaz, I may have a little project for you in the near future...

MarkW (used to be on here) and I are making some high power lights for night mountain biking and really fancy having the casings turned from a piece of Aluminium. Are you able to do this?? Nothing on paper yet but defo work for a manual lathe and perhaps a bit of milling.

Thats if you do small one off projects and prototypes!

Cheers Bud

Excellent! So payment will be in beers then! Once I get all the components through I'll get some drawings sorted. I really really wish I continued my career as a machinist. Nothing beats the feeling of completing a piece, holding it up (burning your fingers) and admiring your own work!

Dont forget the gear knob!

aaaha yes but the pay is bloody awful . had a guy round today to assess my bathroom (rented flat) and he basically offered me some part time work plumbing etc. 80-100 a day!! i have never earned that sort of ££

I know what you mean. The guy I used to work with in South Africa says the same. However my friend is a tool maker and he is making a mint. As an Aircraft Tech there are very well paid jobs out there but boy can it be boring! Same shite every day near enough. Bring back the burnt fingers, swarf in your hair and cutting fluid smell!
