Ok, fairly soon the zed will go wide arch.

I want to buy some rims and obviously want them to look right in the arches.

Im hoping to get something with as deep a dish as possible.

My question is what width of wheels should i be looking at in both 18 and 19" and on both the front and back if possible as i don't know whether to stick with the standard 8.5 width on the front or not

Thanks

Get some 19s, 265s, but remember the bigger the wheels get the worse your brakes will be, I have 19s on my zed, the brakes wernt to clever before but they are pretty rubbish now, its running on stock discs and callipers at the minute, but finally i'm a ordering a big brake upgrade from tarox tomorrow, cost alot but it will be nice for my zed to funally stop when i ask it to.

Well mines a jap spec tt, i have 19" 265s rear and 19" 245s on the front, i dont have a wide arch convo on mine but they look good, If you got the stock wheels, i think they are 215s but not certain. My rears are 10.5s and the fronts are roughly 9.5s. Like i said mines not wide arched but the ones i have fill the arch quite nicely, and will look even better when i whack the eibach springs on. Only bad point is the stock disc look like a 2 pence pieces stuck in the wheel.

Wheels size will not affect Brakes.

7.5" is the stock front wheel width, but I would recomend fitting 8.5" front with 235 or 245 fronts. For a non-wide arch zed then a 9.5" is a good rear width with 265 or 285 tyres.

The same can be fitted for a wide arch zed with the use of spacers on the rear wheels, although you do have the option of going as wide as 12" on the rears and with the correct offset you can get away without the need for spacers.

with a far greater mass of wheel, the brakes will effected one way or the other, seeing as zed brakes are inherently rubbish anyway, definately get them upgraded.

Sory mate, your wrong about larger rims not effecting brake performance. Larger rims can, and do effect in a major way. The further the rubber is away from teh radius of the disk the more force is needed to stop the rotation.

Otherewise we would not need Big Brakes for exactly teh same reason. The more force needing to stop a faster car put excess load on stock brakes, and you notice a drop in performance.

I've never noticed a difference.

i'm running on 19's with a 35mm profile and this is the same size as my standard wheels and tyres. surely same overall size means same force needed to stop the rotation  or is it more to do with he overall weight of the wheels? i personally don't think it makes a difference.

as for the wheels to put on a wide arch zed, look at jason farrows. they're awesome and 12 inch wide rears

Wrong!

If you have chosen your tyres properly the rolling radius will be exactly the same. So the edge of the tyres is the same distance before and after. 19" on 30R/35F profile will have the same radius as stock.

The only thing that will affect it is if the overall weight (less tyres/more alloy) changes. Which it wont very much.

As for tyre width, try to get 235 on the front, which ideally is 8.5 rim. The back is up to you and your spacers.

not entirely correct that, the mass of actual alloy due to differing densities will definitely effect the brakes, becuase torque is directly related to the radius and angular velocity, the interface between rubber and alloy is not a negligable value

One thing to take into consideration is the cost of tyres, I had 19"s and they are about 70% more expensive than 18"s. John

Thats a good point like lol

Mac1, why would it be better having spacers on the wheels at 10" rather than having let say 122 that just fit straight on apart from costs of tyres etcThanks for the help so far guys

Its not better to have spacers  If you can get the right offset then go for it but you will struggle.

PMSL, you were moaning about the price of a standard uk rear tyre the other day, now you are talking about putting on 12x19 lol
