After installing my new cat back exhuast my

z seams to smoke a bit more than before.

Is this a sign that the turbos are on there

way out. Are there any obvious signs of this?

After I give the car some stick it does seem

to go away. However I used it earlier and took it for a drive, it got up to normal temperature, then after stopping the engine

for a few minutes and starting it again it smoked quite badly for a while. Am I being paranoid or have I got some open wallet surgery coming? Is this a common problem with these cars?

As a matter of interest what is the cost of

new turbos and how much to install? Who do

you recommend as the best make to go for?

Please Help!!

Sounds like the rear seals are worn, have a look at the smoke diagnosis tech section.

Thanks for the reply Nexus.

That being the case is it a mare to get these

changed. Can you get new seals or does it mean new turbo's?

Simon,

Unfortunately, the rear seal cannot be changed without overhauling the turbo's.

Smoke is a sign of oil leaking through the seal. Every time you drive har, this oil clears up and things will seem normal again. The oil seaps through the seal after you switch off which causes lots of smoke when you restsart.

I recommend Darren who is currently changing Vijays turbo's and will be doing mine soon.

The engine has to be removed to change the turbo's so the price isn't cheap. Darren at Ancaster Nissan will offer a very competitive price.

steve i have my nissan manual here, and it says you can change the turbo's without removing the engine. Could this be true or is my manual wrong?

Warren, your manual is perfectly correct....

If you have very small hands - lol

My first ever turbo change was carried out with the engine in the car and they didn't do a very good job having to cut tools to fit bolts etc etc

The transmission needs to be dropped and then it is very difficult to remove the turbo's without lots of cursing and swearing etc.

To do the job properly (IMO) the engine needs to be pulled and this is how Darren does the job :-)
