Hi folks,

i sent my zed in for a full blow over after fitting the new spoiler and bumper and when i picked it up it seemed excellent. Its only now with the better weather and different lighting i noticed that i can still see swirls in the paint - although very feint it is consistent all over the car (almost like extremely light scratches). Is this to be expected or am i expecting too much. I did approach 3 or 4 places for the price which was £1500 (not inc vat) which they were all about that price - but he was recommended.

Any views or advice greatly appreciated.

It sounds like when they sanded the body to key it for the paint they did it with a bit too heavy grade abrasive? Not a lot can be done however as the laquer will obviously contain anything that has been done under itself just like a virtual sheet of glass. If you can live with it then OK if not you should take the car back and see what they say. The problem with some spray shops is the lighting. If it isnt great then the finish can not be appreciated until its in daylight. They could of course maybe apply another coat of laquer with a hint of colour to try and hide the imperfections. £1500. is quite a reasonable price but you would expect a good job for that.

Need to assess where the swirls actually are. If they are under the clearcoat then it's repaint time. If they are in the clearcoat, then a simple paint correction by a good auto detailer is all that's needed.

A lot of the time, a paintshops will spend a few hours with a buffer after the paint has been left to cure a bit. Unfortunately, more often than not, they are too abrasive with the buffer and therefore you'll get swirls and holograms.

A good auto detailer will be able to correct all of this.
