just bought the sgp underdrive pulley from smithy, came really quick through the post too, finished a night shift lastnight went to bed in the morning after a couple of hours the door bell went :smash:

whoo hoo its mr postie, so i ran down stairs and there was mr postie with the box, sign here he said, then he handed me the box.

shit i though in my head its too light has smithy messed up my order :slap:

i knew i was having plugs, belts & a pulley, damn it he hasnt sent the pulley :slap:

so there i went long faced to the kitchen with the bread knife in hand opened the box & :nana2: :nana2:

there it was the pulley,

now i swear the box of six plugs weigh more than the pulley, im not kidding :p

its fantastic quality & came with all the belts too.

nice one smithy bud u had me going there

there's a reason its called >lightweight

yeah i thought it would be half the weight of the stock one :slap:

but how wrong was i :slap: i wasnt expecting something as light as this :nana2: :nana2:

let us know how you think the performance has increased once fitted bud :)

i will do matey, my zed is on the road end of this month,

will keep you all posted :hyper:

both are the same imho, you pay for the name, but with the unorthodox you can also get the full set of pulleys, p.steering ect.

Ive tried 2 lightweight pulleys.

first one was from ebay. £25

The car after fitting does rev easier and sounds like it have more grunt. its hard to explain the difference. Only problem i was encountering was the belts would squeal for about a minute on starting. This soon got embarrassing.

I read that others had used the SGP pulley from smithy so I decided to buy one.

second pulley. SGP with belts £110

On first look the new pulley looked the same as the ebay one until I removed it from the car and compared them side by side. The quality of the SGP was outstanding and the edges were smooth. Side by Side I easily saw that the belt tracks were different by nearly 2cm. Was this causing the squeal? I believe so. If the tracks were wrong, what else was wrong?

Since ive fitted the SGP pulley Ive had no problems with belts since and the engine is in great shape 2 years later :)

thats my experience's anyway

That explains why mines squealing

also good quality ones have timing marks on, much easier to set the timing up via strobe

secondly unorthodox and sgp are balanced properly meaning less wobble and less chance of premature bearing failure!

I had access to lots of belts too (a friend owned an autofactors) and i couldnt stop them squealing. tightening and loosening just didnt make any difference. after a couple of months i got fed up with it

yep, timing mark came in real handy when checking my timing. I was running at 12 instead of 15. slight move of the CAS fixed that and there I was. Bang on 15 :hyper:

yep retarded timing not good, slightly advanced a bit better :)

I got the unorthodox from the z centre then seen i could get it a fair bit cheaper from smithys. Almost to nice to put on my car and was also very shocked at just how light it was.

thanks for the pulley smithy awsome :nana2:

Do you get faster acceleration at the expense of less torque?

I am not sure I understand the trade off. can someone explain to me exactly how it improves the car and what the downside is?

with less load on the crank it means less energy to turn so this will give you a more crispier response and possibly a small amount of increased FWHP certainly a good mod

also because its smaller than the stock harmonic type!

In turn it means water pump/viscous, p.steering and aircn pump spins at a slightly lesser rate, which in theory means water is circulated at a slightly slower rate, i dont think anyone has had any issues though, i certainly never did, but then with added mods like a koyo radiator, any losses are minimal

Can you fit these on an auto (dumb question day!!)

how hard are they to fit?

cheers

yes no odds which transmission bud

and it involves removing the radiator, viscous fan, belts and OEM crank pulley then refit with underdrive and shorter belts

ideal time to do 60k service whilst your there, as its same process minus cambelt covers etc.

greg

cool, might have to save my pennies .. had a 60k service when the engine work was done..

maybe do it when i get my hands on either a koyo or ash-spec rad then ;)

cheers

Well worth doing, particularly with a lightened flywheel.

Makes the engine rev up quicker and more responsive plus a bit of extra power (actually less power lost, before the pedantics start!)

Would just like to say thanks to Smithy for getting me some adjustable tension rods to me urgently next day.

Always a great service, unlike a few people i could mention on here!

Even more impressive when he was due in hospital with another Smithy on the way :)

i had one of the pully's off smithy to i fitted it when i did my top end rebuild must say makes a difference with acceleration fantastic product

If you need a hand fitting then give me a shout. I fitted one a few weeks back. Your only down the road!!
