Hi I have searched the forums but cannot find any information.

I have been speaking with zed world and they suggested that i chip my car and increase the boost to 13.5psi for £300 - 70bhp.

The problem i have

- I have a mint standard car done 60k and do not want problems

- would like the extra power but concerned about the above

- has anyone else had it done, any experiences? is it worth it?

I do not drive the car hard much at all as enjoy just driving it, so it runs full boost infrequently.

Grateful of any advice/experience

Cheers

Mat

There's a bit more to it than that bud than just chipping the ecu, the chip justs re maps the ecu, the stock turbo's, intercoolers, injectors will cope with that amount of boost but they will be starting to max out, 12psi is a bit more on the safer side if your a little worried about damaging the engine. If you wanted higher boost then you have to start looking at injector upgrades intercooler upgrades and turbo upgrades. Did they mention about fitting an electronic boost controller? You will need to fit one so you can adjust the amount of boost you want when you want, so if your doing normal driving you can have the boost level set lower, and higher if you want that bit more fun, some people fit boost jets to gain boost cheap way around it but not advisable as the boost cant be adjusted, but will still need chipping. should have gone to dixons !! he has done a very good chip for me, plenty of saftey margin in the chip

Why bother if you don't use the power?

All you'll do is make it less reliable in the long run.

Dear Andy,

Hope you dont mind me writing to you but have been advised by many.

I'm a little confused, on my totally stock car what can I do for around the £300 mark to increase performance safely?

I am not sure what is involved by the methods zed world use but guess from the comments from everyone not so much and it is more of a bodge job?

Thanks in advance

If you dont drive it hard why not just get a good air filter and cat back exhaust, that would give you a we bit more.

I had my car decatted and a decent enough airfilter fitted and the different was noticable, quicker response, faster spool up on the turbos and quicker top end.

Worth the money and it doesn't do any less mpg day to day

chip and jets are the biggest bang for the buck you can get. a decent aftermarket chip can be obtained for £50 if you shop around. however the chip in your ECU will need de-soldering and a socket soldering in its place. this is where most of the expense will come from when chipping for the first time (unless you can do it yourself or know someone with a steady hand  ) the jets are mig welding tips and are practically free

the size of jet governs the max boost, although as has already been said, they tend to cause boost spikes - the is only 'dangerous' if you go with 0.8mm or below as boost levels could reach 16psi which is a step over the mark. 1mm or 1.2mm will generate 14-ish psi and 12-ish psi respectively with no danger of spiking over your car's limits.

for £300 you should be able to get chip, jets and a decent intake, and possibly a zorst too if you stretch your budget a little, or a better route would be a proper electronic boost controller, chip and intake.

If you can stretch the budget, then I believe a boost controller is better because it reduces the boost 'spikes' which can cause detonation for a short period of time when the throttle is opened quickly. Also in the wet, it's useful to lower the boost right down so you don't over-cook it when exiting corners!

Majority of TT zeds are running around with the setup you have descibed. However it should'nt cost you anymore than £150 for a Specialist to supply and fit ECU Chip and Boost jets (or about £75-£100 if you fit yourself)
