Installed the avcr today and i've set it up to run 0.9 bar at around 80-85% duty.

JDM TT swb slicktop manual

The car has the following mods/parts replaced:

Bilstein suspension

SPL type adjustable upper camber arms

Adjustable lower tension rods

New propshaft centre bearing

Trust induction kit

Blitz Access Computer (ECU)

Kakimoto cat-back twin system

Remote oil filter

OE water pump & by-pass hoses

NGK platinum spark plugs

Full cambelt service

Oil cooler

I started off with these settings as suggested :

http://www.turbomr2.com/MR2/HowTo/APEXI%20AVCR/Installing%20APEXi%20AVCR-03.htm

When I was on the road my friend who installed the avcr kept an eye on the avcr screen. When we tried to up the boost to 1bar with around 80% duty it didn't hold the boost at 1 bar or even make 1 bar of boost but it's fine at 0.9bar.

Is it just a case of increasing the boost to 1 bar and increasing the duty to something like 100% to get it to 1 bar and hold boost there?

If it would help I can go out to the car and type out all the settings I have inputted into the avcr so you can see what is what.

Any advice appreciated!

Car feels quick though and seems a lot more aggressive. 3rd gear really does pull like a train.

lol, you're impatient. I have my AVC-R set to around 40% duty to hit 1 bar. With fewer mods and when I first set it up I think it was around 60%. Are you sure it's configured correctly?

Is it going to be roughly the same for each car or will each car be different? Mine is running a blitz ecu, will this make a difference on what duty I have to run?

no, ecu will make no difference to the duty level needed. Zeds with similar mods will need around the same duty level too. Do you have any vacuum leaks?

im glad someones boought the setting apexi avcr subject up as iv had mine installed a while, but have left it at factory setting apart from the main car setup points, iv got a few mods like jwt chip irdium spark plugs, dual induction and dump valves also got the apexi afc controller, can anyone direct me toward setting mine up?? tnx

85% is way too much, something not right there.

I've just been out and used that guide. It peaks at 1.02 bar @ 85% duty. If I set it to around 58-60% duty then it will only reach around 0.74 of a bar.

1st and 2nd gears don't seem to get max boost, 3rd and 4th seem to hit it ok. Is this correct? I take it full boost isn't meant to be used in 1st and 2nd.

Any ideas? Is it not running safe at the moment then? It's not going over 1.02 bar, that's for sure.

Like Jaffa says, make sure you have no leaks. That is a very high duty cycle, really shouldn't need it. Listen for a hiss from under bonnet when you turn the ignition off. Don't forget AVC-R self learning mode doesn't work properly on TT zeds. (unless there's been a new version with a fix - I've been out of circulation for a while ;-))

mine used to hit 1.2bar on 70% if that helps, similar mods to you,i'd say theres a bost leak somewhere.

I'll have to have a check. Wheres the most likely place for a boost leak? It's still hitting 1.02 bar though which would indicate there is no leak? It's not hitting 1.02bar until higher revs though, say 6k... should it be hitting 1.02 bar at lower revs?

Is it dangerous to run it? As long as it's not overboosting it should be ok because i'm driving to and from work in it!

have you diconnected the stock boost solonoids?

I would:

1) ensure they're diconnected

2) turn off the boost controller,(equivilant of 0% duty) this should net a solid 7psi if there are no leaks.

3) fix leaks!

4) If there are no leaks, then you've got the plumbing wrong, it's very easy to splice into the wrong vacuum lines.

5) Also ensure the length of vacuum hose is the same for both sides to the solonoid and back to the original lines, you want to keep things balanced.

6) set duty to 40%, then work you're way up.

PS you should hit 1 bar by around 3.5k rpm when everything is running right! Then the car will be quick :)

Chris. I've got a boost leak detector you can borrow. easy to use. just plumb in where the maf goes and pump it up while listening for leaks

I've just been out with the avcr setting for boost turned off and the display on the avcr was telling me it had maximum boost of between 0.50-0.55 bar. This I beleive is between 7-8psi so all is good there.

The one thing I did notice is that the avcr has a setting for start duty and that is all set to -25% (minus 25 percent)...is this correct?

I followed this guide posted by another user on here...

http://www.turbomr2.com/MR2/HowTo/APEXI%20AVCR/Installing%20APEXi%20AVCR-03.htm

I also couldn't find what it says "Set Engine RPM-Specific Boost Duty to 70% in each range (Page 24 in the AVC-R manual)."... Is this not just the normal duty setting in the boost screen where you set 1.0 bar and duty below it.

Help would be appreciated.

No, start duty is wrong, mine are all set to 0. I'm hitting 1.3kgcm2 with 78% at about 3500rpm

I must confess, I have this in my Zed, fiddled with it so much when i 1st got, i knew i kept ****ing it up. When i was in the Northwest, poped into DP Motorsport and watched totally amazingly how quick the guy fiddled with the buttons etc and she ran like a dream afterwards.

So in short what am saying mate, you've got it fitted and running, call in somewhere who sets these things up for a living, they will do in no time what you can try and do all night long :)

I'll try changing the start duty all to 0 to see if that makes any difference and will get back to you.

It is a good idea to have it setup properly though. Thanks for the advice.
