I had originally modded my back lights with the clear diffuser stuff, but after "test driving" Paul's 99 spec lights, I decided to do them properly this time....
If you seperate them completely, rather than just pulling them half apart to get the orange strip out, you can remove the grey plastic section.
I used some of that chrome paint from B&Q (same paint I used for my headlights), which is pretty close to the 99 spec effect.
For the black lines, Paul gave me a section of plain black Vinyl. To cut the strips, I taped together two small stanley knifes, with about a 2.5 mill gap. Then I just ran the blades down the vinyl several times to give me my strips, all ready just to apply to the inside of the clear plastic.
To measure where they go, I got an A3 sheet of paper, and pressed it on the inside of the clear section, which indented the shape. I measure the gap, top to bottom, which luckily was exactly 45 mm. So the lines would be placed 15mm apart. I just dotted the 15mm increments all along the paper, then taped it to the outside of the lamp, allowing me to see where to put the strips on the inside.
Unfortunately I destroyed one of the lamps in the oven, lol, but I had a few spares, thank god.
So here it is.
DIY 99 spec rear lights, version 2....
